So my parents are putting in the majority of the money for our wedding. His parents are giving about a quarter of the money. I think that my parents should be allowed to invite more people than FH's parents. Not like 50 people more, but like 15-20. FH thinks this is unfair. What do you think???? Am I being unreasonable here?

Re: Guest List question
My mother thinks that she should be able to invite more people because she is paying for the whole reception but the fmil doesn't know this yet and I have a feeling it's going to start a few problems. However my mom is paying a lot and even giving me the extras that I want for the reception while his side hasn't even decided what they will be paying for if anything. So I believe that our mom's should be able to invite more, nothing crazy, but definetly more.

Re: Guest List question
I think it depends on who they plan on inviting...I understand the point about who's contributing more etc...but if the people fh's parents are inviting are relatives or really close friends vs. your parents inviting people they know but are not really a part of your life, honestly I would rather fh's parents to invite more people regardless of who's paying...I personally would discuss with fh who HE thinks is important to be present at your wedding. Is money an important factor in planning a wedding?: ABSOLUTELY. should it be the deciding factor?: ABSOLUTELY NOT. Don't let this create a wedge between you and fh, or make him feel like its less of his wedding and more yours because of finances.
NOW, if the guests are just friends, coworkers etc on both ends, then yes youre definitely right, your parents have the upper hand.

I definatly agree with you. Your mom should be able to invite more. it ends up shes going to be paying for them so why cant she. Tell your fh that his family can invite more but then they will be paying more...no thats mean....but still i agree with you!

Re: Guest List question
My parents are paying for everything, FH's parents are not paying for anything. FH's parents are also OOT, so my parents are inviting way more people. I don't mind since they are paying and I should know *most* people there

I have to say I dont agree with that at all....it should be equal. My FH's family is paying for our wedding and they would never tell me in a million years how many people i can invite to my own wedding. I'm sorry but that is just crazy!!!!!! It doesnt matter who the heck it paying for it....nobody should nitpick about how many people more they can invite...sorry!

Yeah nitpicking about 15-20 people? Does that really make a huge difference? What happens if you do cut the guest list on his side? Is it gonna start world war 3? Is it worth it....equal is better and if after that your parents wanna pay for extra then go for it.......

LOL im glad you agree...i mean its crazy to even waste time talking about 15-20 people. Obviously one side is going to have more people than the other side...its nothing to start a fight over...

Re: Guest List question
I am not arguing about it, but he just doesn't think my parents should invite 15-20 more people than his parents, even though his parents already made their list and I didn't make them cut it at all. They are inviting everyone they want. FH just thinks it should be equal.

Re: Guest List question
I disagree. Just because your parents are kicking in more doesn't mean his parents dont want as many people to celebrate in your special day. What if neither parents were paying? Would you not invite any of their friends/family? I think it's a little childish to say everything has to be even steven. You're joining families...
But if his parents already invited all they need to invite and don't need to invite anymore, he shouldn't get mad that your parents have more to invite.
