You are not being unreasonable BUT this is exactly why I fought with DH about only inviting friends and family with serious relationships with guests. People assume that and guest means they can bring anyone...personally I do not get it!

Re: Guests bringing Guests vent...
Honestly... when I was single I wanted to bring a friend of mine to my friends wedding and she said no. (I was invited with a guest but the guy I was seeing and I broke up between the invite and the wedding.) I would have had a much better time if she would have let me. I wanted to bring a friend who lived in north RI who I never saw (the wedding was in MA). He was going to pick me up at Providence and drive. Instead I had to go to NH and get picked up from my friend. It took so much longer. Then I was the only one of my friends who was single and they tried to set me up with a guy that was so not for me, so I spent a lot of the night watching my friends dance. I think you have to think about your single friends. If they are more comfortable bringing a friend then why not. And if you told them that they can bring a guest then it is up to them who they bring.
However if they say they are bringing a guest and then show up alone, then I would be mad. That happened to me several times. I would have rather them bring a random friend then come alone.

I totally agree with this...and I understand if this friend was the only single person, or she wasnt going to know anyone, if she wanted to bring a friend or whatever, I would get it. However, she will not be the only single person and most of those other single people are her friends. This is not a wedding where she will feel lost or uncomfortable...she will know at least 25 people, if not more. What pisses me off the most about the situation is that she is bringing this guy, who I know, who I was friends with in college, but we are not close now enough for me to invite him. So I find it awkward that she is bringing him at all...I mean like, hi I didn't invite you to my wedding, but I am glad you got a backdoor invite from my friend...awesome!

I think it's very unclear when you receive an invitation that invites you with a guest when you're not going through this process.
I know in the past when I was invited to weddings with a guest, I felt a lot of pressure to find someone to go with me. I was nervous that it would be a problem to go alone. I felt ashamed i didn't have a 'guest' to bring, even though I was invited to.
I never would've brought a girlfriend with me somewhere because 'and guest' to me means 'date' not 'friend' but I could see where the confusion could come from. When you're not going through this process, a lot of the wedding stuff can be really foreign.
I know it's too late now, but what we did was not say 'and guest' on anyone's invitation, but I orally told all of my friends that they are welcome to bring someone with them as long as they put their names on the response card. It really limited the number of people clamoring to find someone just to fill the spot they thought I wanted them to fill, but made everyone feel like they could bring someone with them if they wanted to.
I hope it works out for you in the end! Sorry you're upset about it -- something good will come from all of this!!!

This is so frustrating...my cousin, who knows the entire family so it is not like she doesn't know anyone and needs to bring someone, informed me via email (I guess she couldn't just send the prestamped rsvp card back, that she will be bringing her girlfriend!!!! Why just bring a friend!!???
Some people have no wedding etiquette. I can see if a friend was coming who knows NO ONE and felt the need to bring someone with them, but a cousin!!!! UGh....sorry to vent on your vent!

Re: Guests bringing Guests vent...
I can understand where you're coming from. I had to invite my sister with a guest, and she's bringing a 'male' friend of hers who has said flat out to her face that he doesn't like me. At all. And of course I'm pissed that she's bringing him. And one of my BMs, who is single, and I had no intended on inviting with a guest, said to me over the summer 'I haven't decided if I'm going to bring a friend or not to your wedding yet...' and I'm thinking really? Cuz I wasn't going to invite you with one. So of course then I HAD to, since she was going to respond with one anyways so I might as well have saved myself the agita, and now she still hasn't sent her card back because she's scrambling calling up random dudes from all over the eastern seaboard and midwest from college to come as her date. So in this case, it's like come on, just face the facts and come solo.
Ugh, sorry to piggyback as well. But I get what you mean. If my friend/sister had a legitimate bf, that's fine, but in this case it's just for the sake of it. But I'm going to be scarily short of my minimum, so at this point, I'll take it.
