Re: guests bringing kids to the wedding!!!!
maybe someone you know can babysit the kid? like maybe a young family member, family friend, that is old enough to babysit?? someone that knows the family so the mother feels comfortable. just a suggestion.
i think its kinda weird that you addressed the invite to Mr. & Mrs. and they sent it back adding a child, without even calling to ask if it was ok.
its a tough situation

Re: guests bringing kids to the wedding!!!!
I agree with everyone else on here!
I think it's either they come with kid or they don't come. I think if it's one kid.. it's not such a big deal. You know they are coming from OOT... what are they supposed to do with their kid?? If you adamently don't want ANY kid then you will have to call them and tell them and most likely sacrafice their presense. It's up to you.
How old is the kid?
Some kids do have fun at weddings and can be well behaved and if they are closely related to you, then it's nice for them to be there.

Re: guests bringing kids to the wedding!!!!
I completely understand this can sometimes get very ugly a few people on my side and a few on my fiances side don't just have one or 2 but 4 and 5 and so it's very annoying to have to pay full price for the little ones when there are so many and your wedding can start to look like sesame street. I would make it very clear that you would prefer no childern and unless someone formaly picks up the phone and says hey can i bring my kid then and you feel like saying yes then the answe is no :)
