GUILTY - WEDDING GIFTS

GUILTY - WEDDING GIFTS

I feel so guilty about my wedding registries, we have four of them (Williams-Sonoma, Neiman Marcus, Pottery Barn, and Macy's)...I picked mostly expensive items I really could care less if we received because we mainly want $$$, so we figured it would be a deterrent when our guests viewed them....but they're actually shopping...we recently received a $400 Waterford comforter from one of my friends....and then I started snooping and I see things are being bought right and left...I feel guilty, ungrateful, and happy at the same time. We did not get anything off our registry for our shower, just money from our guests....but for our e-party and the wedding people are shopping, FH and I live together and have a well stocked household already....I don't get it.

Well, you shouldn't have done a registry. You could have requested monetary gifts, in a subtle way.

We are getting money gifts from certain people we know of. But another way was to register at BB&B. They give you cash for returns. Even though we registered for stuff that we need, if we decide that we don't want something, we can return it for the moolah.

Sweetheart are you for real?! There is no way to ask for money, period. Its rude and shows a lack of etiquette. We registered because although the gifts are expensive they are things we'd like to buy if we were splurging...I don't need guests to establish or furnish my home. Actually for those who want straight up cash, there are mortgage companies that do registries. And the idea of getting a gift and cashing it in is like childish and time consuming and fake.

Honey, don't you have a big mouth relative? All I had to do is tell my grandmother that we need cash for our honeymoon. End of story. With her big Cuban mouth it got all over town. LOL!

Personally, I couldn't give a rat's *** about ettiquette. It's not rude and who cares about ettiquette if all you get wind up with as a $300 Lenox vase. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?

I am not saying for you to go up to them and say 'give us money'. But I have found (I got this trick from some other brides I know) that people often ask where you are registered. This is a prime opportunity for the big mouth relative to tacktfully let people know that you are not looking for presents, but wold prefer cash gifts.

But like I said before, you can register at BB&B and return the gifts for cash.

If you didn't register some people would buy expensive gifts anyway, b /c they don't wnat to give $, so at least this are things you want, even if you really don't need them.

Don't feel guilty, in the end it was there choice.
If I couldn't afford anything on your regisrty, I'd give you a gift card to that store for a shower or engagement & $ for the wedding.

I registered for a fountain, a couch and $600 mirrors at Crate so that no one would buy them.
I registered for such off the wall crap, but good news...someone bought my toaster!! It moonlights as an oven..umm, I don't know how to use an oven. I don't need bed sheets or towels...I will return those for money! I will be able to pay for half the honeymoon by the time I am done returning crap.

ok I confess- I registered for $500 of Calphlon to get the free cookie sheet and spatula. If anyone is actually crazy enough to buy all that stuff, I get more free things. Also this was at BB&B so I can return for cash
