Had a huge fight with JT last night....

So after the emotional decision to hyphenate my name after marriage, and JT telling me he will hyphenate mine with his, he tells me last night that the hyphenated name sounds, and I quote, STUPID, and that he's not going to do it anymore Now, I don't mind that he's not going to do it, but to say it sounds stupid. I'm so hurt and angry at the same time. I mean, how insensitive can he be? AND I spent the whole night defending him to his mother after she was giving him a hard time about working for Thanksgiving. God, I hate men sometimes Thanks for letting me vent.

I have a hyphenated last name (my mom and dad's last names). Mom kept her last name and Dad kept his. They hyphentated me, my sis, and bro. They have been very happily married for 30 years and it works for them. Is this a possibility for you?

I am so sorry about the argument . . . I have to say, Brian is SO old fashioned and feels that an important part of marriage is taking the husbands last name. No one in my family has ever hyphenated before. I wanted to do it legally, but use my married name. I feel that you guys made a really nice decision, but if he wasn't into the idea anymore, he should not have said it was 'STUPID'- sometimes men have no judgement when it comes to sparing feelings. Let yourself have the time to be upset, and then move on, since all in all you know that JT is a great guy and you love hime to pieces!
