Had My First Fight Over My Wedding

NOT with my FMIL as I would have expected, but with my Grandmother! She's mad that FH and I live together and I'm wearing white while my sister (MOH) is wearing black. She thinks by having her wear black, I'm making my sister pay for my sins. LOL. She said, 'You'll see. Your sister's not wearing black!' She's old, and I love her, and this made me and FH laugh so much last night. Now I have to show her a picture of a bridal party in black dresses so she can see it looks nice. She's Italian so black means death to her.

My family is like this too... black is a f***ckin sin to wear

Thats how their generation was... cant change their mentality... gotta just try to brush it off..

Tell her its not black its just really, really dark purple and your dress is a light ivory it just looks white under the lights

that really sux! I'm wearing white and my sister is wearing black too! some of my family think I am out of my mind, but at the end of the day it is my wedding and I love the idea! Good luck!!!

When I toyed with the idea of black BM dresses my mom went .. luckly I fell for the Jim Hjelm dress in sienna so she lucked out..

she's also shocked i decided to wear white.. the nerve!

It's your day no need to alter your visions to appease others!

My family is mostly Italian too- I know my grandmother is shaking her finger at me from heaven b/c i'm also having my sister (MOH) wear black
My mom was in shock at first, she said its a sign of evil and that black is morbid for a wedding.
I also had to take her to theknot.com and show her pictures- now all is good!

omg! poor grandma. My mom said the same thing.. that black BM dresses mean death & it's a sin. The only thing she really cared about was that I didn't have black BM dresses. I hope you can change her mind.

I hear where you're coming from...anyone's dress sleeveless?? I can't let my grandmother see my dress until I'm in church, she'd have a fit that I'll have nothing over my shoulders. Everytime she asks to see a pic. of the dress, I tell her it's a suprise. She'd be so upset.

OH...Your GrandMother sounds like my Italian Granny.... If she was alive, she would be so mad at me for wearing white and living with FH for almost 7 years now!!!

my grandmother is the same way ~ my cousin got married a few years ago and I wore black (like I do to every wedding) and she gave me a piece of her mind... and said I should NEVER wear black to a wedding along with the whole death thing...
I told her to get over it ~ BLACK is my favorite color to wear!
