Had my level 2 sono tonight!

Original post by chmlengr

.. and since I don't have my computer right now (it's getting upgraded and I am using DH's), I can't scan the pictures. I promise to post them as soon as I can, they really are cool to see, even if baby was camera shy!

But I will say it was an amazing experience to see our baby. It's just been the past week or two that I have felt the baby move. It certainly is a weird feeling, nothing at all like I had imagined it would feel. But now I know it's using it's legs to torment my bladder.

All the way there, with my bladder full (oh my!), baby was doing jumping jacks on my bladder. I thought I would explode! Thankfully the technician let me relieve myself after she got the pictures of the cervix and placenta and then she continued on.

The baby is in the breech position and has it's back facing my belly. So we got great shots of the spine, but very few of the face We were able to get a profile picture , and could clearly see the hand up near its forehead. At one point we swore it was waving at us.

Although my doc will go over everything with me at my appointment tomorrow night, the technician did say everything looked perfect. She pointed out its stomach and kidneys too.

At my half way point, my excitment doubles each day. We look forward now to registering, doing the nursery and awaiting the arrival of our little baby!

Again, I'll post the sono pictures as soon as I can scan them. One of them is just so funny. I kid you now when I say it looks like an alien. BUt I love it anyway! Thanks for letting me share.

ETA:

The baby is approximately 12 ounces, 6.5 inches and is still scheduled to arrive on May 26th (one day off from the 25th which was our original date)

Teri, the level 2 is usually done at 20 weeks and it is defintely more comprehensive than you would get at your doctors office (that's why I had to go elsewhere for it.)

It took about 45 minutes, and they measure everything, from the head to the toes, from the spine to the kidneys. It gives your doctor a sense of how the baby is growing relative to the time frame. We also got to hear the heartbeat loud and clear. In addition, the level 2 can sometime detect abnormalities that might be easier to see than earlier in the pregnancy.
