Had no luck again this weekend with Photographers

Original post by bridget&jimmy

I feel like I am running out of people to look at, I have not found one photographer that I happy with yet. Its either they are way over priced for ok work or there work is amazing and the albums are not. I have no idea what i am going to do, I went to see one photographer this weekend and they quoted me $10,000 just for photography. Isnt that insane.

Bridget, who did you see already? We can't keep track

Also, about the dress, maybe since you are having so much trouble finding the photographer, everything else will come easy to you.

Hon, what is it that is turning you off from these photographers?

I used LaMont Gallery in Roslyn and Ron the owner was FANTASTIC!!! I found him based on recommendations from friends - my engagement photos are gorgeous, the proofs were even better - our unedited video was great - Ron was wonderful to work with and he totally won over my family and friends with his charm! He promised we would make my cocktail hour and we did! We took photos at my house, the hotel for my DH's family before the mass, the church and in the gardens at the Westbury Manor. His prices are honest and the work beautiful, I highly recommend LaMont! I got e-photos, all 4x6 wedding proofs (without his name across the front), an unedited video, 3 edited DVDs, 2 parent albums, 62 photo album for me and DH, negatives, 175 thank you cards, etc - FM if you want my price but it's WAY less than I was quoted by anyone else. Good luck!

What type of work are you looking for? It seems you've visited a lot of photographer's - all with different ranges of talent and style.

About 70% candids, and 30% traditional. I also want a digital album.

Have you thought of having someone else make your album?

Did you go to VIP Studios?
I used them and was very happy.

A few friends of mine used JoArt Photography in Sayville and they were very happy with their pictures.

Re: Had no luck again this weekend with Photographers

3/4 of the photographers that women on these boards have used take fantastic pictures. Imagine, Patken, Duet, Cassarino, Twelfth Night, Verdi, Fine Art. But you have to take the good and the bad. You can't over-analyze the samples, because photography is an art form. It's far from perfect. Just shy of hiring Annie Lebowitz, you're not going to get Vanity Fair Magazine type pictures. There are going to be very very good, and some very very bad pictures at the end of your wedding. No matter who you hire.

Now, as for album samples. Go in with it in your mind that your album will not look like anyone else's, because it will be your design, and your pictures. Alot of women on these boards used my photographer, but I know my album will not be close to what theirs looks like, we all got different things in the end. Also, you have to remember that you are looking at samples, usually they are old albums, been through the ringer...so you have to go in asking what the most current albums look like. What doesn't make you happy about the albums?

Personality is very important, but remember that you are going in for a first time sales pitch, they always lay it on thicker. And, odds are, you will be dealing with different people for your booking, photos, and album design. Take some of what they say/how they act with a grain of salt. If it's over the top attitude, tell them to shove it and move on.

The price thing is a big kicker, you have to x out anyone you just can't afford off the top. A lot of people will say that there is no price for photography that can be too much, but I tend to disagree with this. I think it can get a little ridiculous, and I think you can budget for this. But, you also have to ask yourself if you are willing to break your budget, and cut corners in other areas to get closer to what it is that you really want.

You have so much time left really, since you are getting married in 2005 (and odds are, the photographers you are going to are giving you 2005 pricing btw...). Don't stress over this! You'll find someone!

I am not stressed I just have not found anyone I have clicked with yet, the big kicker is the digital album not alot of people have done one yet so they have nothing to show me, or they over price the album because it is new and it is actually cheaper to create those albums then the regular material wise. It just takes an artist to set it up. I think the other problem is that I know the kind of work I want and have seen some I like, but I would prefer a film photographer so I could have my negatives in the end.

The overpricing thing is what makes me think you should wait until next year to begin looking at photographers again. The digital album thing will probably be sweeping the photography industry next year, and odds are you'll get better deals on it. No way should you even think about signing a contract 2 years before you'll use them...
