Had to Vent!

Re: Had to Vent!

I say get the news teams out there...tell whats going on and all the efforts you've made with the Parks Department, the police etc...expose these 'unmanly' men.

Don't get me started on hunting...hunters say its a sport. I say when the animals YOU'RE killing have shot guns in their hands THEN its a SPORT...other than that its for cowards...

To those who hunt. I must say my two cents.

Hunting should be reserved for necessity. I disagree with ‘population control’ of any wild animal. If you want ‘population control’ stop building homes over wild land in break neck speeds! No one would (in the US) dare suggest population control of humans but we happily give free rein to destroy animals which have done nothing but had the bad luck to be where mankind wants to be.

Hundreds of years man and animal lived in harmony. Killing doesn’t bother me if it’s necessary to feed a family and live off of. Lets face it, we do not live in colonial times anymore. No hunter can honestly tell me they just would ‘die’ if they couldn’t kill a deer. The cost of hunting licensing, gun licensing, supplies, ammo, guns, etc can’t possible be cheaper than just going to the store and buying meat. Most hunters at some degree or another hunt for the thrill of the hunt. It’s animal instinct. But it’s not necessary.

I’ll agree hunting may be more humane than some types of deaths but it doesn’t make it better.

Let the animals be. If you had not already hunted, destroyed, scared off or obliterated their natural predators as well as allow them to have their own space and respect nature for it’s cycles we wouldn’t have a population problem would we?

Wanna hunt? Go find a wild area, unpopulated and unfortunately in need of control since we stupid humans have already screwed up the ecosystem and hunt there. Leave residential areas alone.

Worse, is new residents who are shocked that ‘wild animals’ come on their property and resort to poisoning or cruelly trapping them. ARGH

i thnk hunting for sport is so wrong and just unnecessary when there are supermarkets that have it prepared for you. oy, it gets me so mad. there is no need to kill Bambi

First of all, I have to say that I agree that it is absolutely wrong for hunters to tresspass on private property, hunt in areas that are obviously civilian or act in any way that is potentially dangerous.

But, I have to say that I grew up in a family that has always hunted. When my father or brother shot a deer, we would eat it. It would practically feed a family of four for an entire winter. It's not the cruel and disgusting thing that you think it is. Do you think shooting a deer is less humane than the way animals that are 'prepared in supermarkets' are slaughtered? I could go on and on about controlling the deer population and consuming hormone-free meat...but the bottom line is that not everyone who hunts is barbaric and comments like yours are offensive to some. And, as for the comment about being too lazy to go to the Stop and Shop...well, now, do you think it's about laziness really? If it were then there was no way my dad would've gotten up at 4am in freezing temperatures to sit in a tree all day waiting for a shot...

Yes, but that is not what they are doing! They are coming on my property in the afternoon and discharging their guns within 300 feet of my house. Thus I call them lazy (lazy hunters). Actually they are not hunters because the deer will come right up to you. They do this and shoot them at point blank range. This is not sport. It is dangerous (for me and my family) and illegal!

As I said, I ABSOLUTELY agree that they should not be on your property or within dangerous distance of your family. It is illegal to hunt on private property (although I'm not sure what the rules are about private residents hunting on their own property if it's over a certain size?). I'm more offended by the comments that hunting is wrong under all circumstances. I feel that all too often people make that assumption without all of the facts.

Have you tried to talk with your neighbor about his allowing them in the vicinity?

My enterprising neighbor was selling people the right to hunt on my property. He got in big doo doo for this. I seriously doubt he will be doing it again!

I would be standing out on my property armed (with friends) taking target practice with the trespassers. Then collect the heads!

I was just reading the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation site. They say it is legal to hunt on private property if you have permssion. So , I guess that's why peoplw knock. That's actually not as odd as I thought.

Also, it says you can put up your own signs.

Security cameras might help, but that is probably too expensive.

You probabaly know all this, but for anyonw else who is interested, here is the LINK

ETA: how about more signs, and 'children's play areas' signs?

Re: Had to Vent!

I know someone with a horse farm in Dutchess that has had big problems with this, after 25 years they finally got the word out that their land is not hunter friendly and they are not welcome. Well its just started again, they don't even take the meat, they leave it bagged for their dogs to find.

However, the police in their town are responsive. First sign of cars along the road or shots fired, and they are draggin them out of the woods.

They have dogs that help, not Dobermans, I forget the breed but a real friendly dog... the herder type.

The hunters say they get lost on the property... well they should not be allowed to hunt where there is even the remote possibilty they can 'get lost' and stumble within feet of someone's backyard. I don't think 300 ft is enough (i think thats the limit)

I beleive they are now trying to ban rifles in Orange and Rockland due to growth.

Re: Had to Vent!

As an additional FYI that adds to my frustration - upon opening the pool this season we found three broken arrows about 12 to 15 feet from the pool.

Thanks everyone for listening.
Nice to know I can vent too!

We have tried many different means to come to a satisfactory solution. The end result is some people don't care and will do whatever they want even if it infringes on other peoples property and/or rights.

What if I put up loud speakers with tiger roars. Think that will get their attention?

That's what I meant about the landmines.

Seriously if it were me, I would sit out there with a rifle loaded with rubber bullets and really let them have it.
