I hate haggling, never been good at it, never liked it! On the other hand, FH is a great negotiator, though, and will haggle you out your pants.

I always feel I'm taking food out someone's mouth. I wouldn't want my boss haggling me about lowering my salary. Why mess with other people's money? I like paying people what they're worth. If you want quality, you have to pay for it.

That's not necessarily true. Bridal stores jack up prices to begin with. I don't get what quality has to do with asking for a discount.

If I were you, I would politely make it clear that you like the dress but it is a little over your budget. You can also say that you found it at another store that is more local to you and they are willing to give you a discount. They most likely will match the price or give you a bigger discount just be really nice about it! There is nothing wrong with asking - I bargain with everyone and it always works.

Quality costs. I would never ask Preston Bailey to discount his prices, because I find value in his work. I also know if he's doing my event he'll use the finest flowers, materials, etc. All that cost, plus he has to make a living. Just like the bridal shop. They purchase the gowns and then have to mark-up so they can cover their cost and be able to pay their bills and pay their employees. I'm not saying asking for a discount is wrong or right. I'm just stating my opinion on why I don't like to haggle. Whether it be for a dress or photography. If I can't afford it, I find something else. *shrug*

That's totally your business if you like to haggle or not. It actually works for the business since they would most likely give discounts to other brides so thanks lol

You're welcome!

If you knew how little it costs to make compared to what they charge , it would blow your mind!!

The salon wouldn't give me the style name or let me take a picture of the dress. Is this normal? This is why I had to find the closest matching style that I could find on the Maggie site. And price compare from there

I visited many salons and always took pics. Some did not share the style number though

Re: Haggling on the Dress

I'm going to visit some other salons to price compare and hopefully be able to negotiate with them. This bridal boutique is right by my house which is why I would prefer to do business with them.

I was able to take pictures and every dress in Village Bridal had the price and style number tag right on it.

agreed. i bought mine at village and everything was labeled. this was true for every other bridal salon i visited.

also, you could ask to buy the one off the rack to save money. usually, they'll cut you a deal if you buy their sample.
