So I'm thinking of having my curly hair straightened but I have a few questions:
1) Will my hair be bone straight or have some movement? 2) Is this smart to do before my wedding? Is it safe? 3) Are there any reasonably priced places on Long Island? 4) Has anyone tried the 'Unreel' method at Defranco salon in great Neck?
Any adive would be great! Thanks!

Re: Hair Straightening questions
do you mean like chemical straightening??? FSIL does this...she used to have beautiful hair, it was curly and she had to spend forever straightening it with a flat iron so she started with the japanese straightening. i have to tell you that while she still has the 'coarse/thick' textured hair she's always had, her hair is now rather thin. she used to have SUPER thick hair....and it comes out in globs. last time she got it done, she (out of habit) stuck one side behind her ear the same day....there was a perm. crink in her hair from that so although she spent all that money to avoid using a flat iron everyday, she still has to because of that.....
i personally do'nt think it's a great idea and maybe wait until after the wedding...some people go bald from it. yikes. JMO

Re: Hair Straightening questions
1) Will my hair be bone straight or have some movement? I got it chemically straightened. I did it twice a long time ago and it was bone straight. It only lasted about 1-2 months both times. But I think it was because I was young and didn't know what to do with it since it was straight
2) Is this smart to do before my wedding? Is it safe? I wouldn't do it before the wedding -- eveybody is different and not sure how it will react to you
3) Are there any reasonably priced places on Long Island? don't know I'm from Queens
4) Has anyone tried the 'Unreel' method at Defranco salon in great Neck? No
I have been getting my hair japanese straghten for 4 years
it's amazing- I would recommend you get it done 3 months before your wedding
my hair has movement, body, and even takes a curl
but stays straight if I was to get a few rain drops on it- unlike before when that would be the end of my blow out
I am trying a new place ( for me) in queens on friday- it came highly recommended by other girls on this site- it's less then $200 when I have been paying $500
I get it done every 8 to 9 months- and it really lasts and stays great- do a serach on this website and you will see the amount of girls that get it done
it has changed my life- my hair used to take 45 minites to blow out and now it takes 10!
FM me for more info

Re: Hair Straightening questions
i got mine done about 5 months ago for the first time. I too was nervous about doing it but i was so sick and tired of blow drying it and freaking out when it rained or my hair got wet (because then it would frizz and curl and would make the 35 minutes it took to get it straight... pointless).
Well... since i got it done, i never plan on going back to the old way!!! I am forever going to get this straightening done! It has made my life so much better and easier and that sounds so odd to say. Now it takes me 3 minutes if that to blow dry my hair (i blow dry some of it and the rest dries), i don't have to be self conscious about showering and blow drying at other peoples places, and everything else. I LOVE IT! I can't believe i waited this long to do it!

Re: Hair Straightening questions
i'm afraid of permanently straightening cause i feel like my hair would fall out
but then i think about how nice it would be to not have to straighted my hair and i sigh....
