I go to the Bell Hair Studio on Bell Blvd in Bayside.. they do a very nice job.. i've been going since 2002. They charge based on the amount of hair you have.. I of course have the thickest hair ever but its still reasonable. i dunno what i would do without it!!

Re: Hair Villiage in Woodside ... japanese hair straightening! ((((((With pics for lisa)))))

I know I am going to get it for this..but I also had this done, for the first time at Hair Village, with Millie. It was $150 and I LOVED it at the time. However...this does alot of damage to your hair. I have gone to 4 different places. Hair Village which I noticed was out of control back then. Now I hear they opened another salon across the street and give out numbers. The 2nd time I went, my hair was nearly grown out. I went to another salon in queens not far from Hair Village. They did a good job also..but it was a bit more pricey. My third time..I went to a salon in Flushing and they only did my roots (6 months later). After that experience, my hair in the front broke and I now had bangs..which I never cared for. Still..I went one last time..but tried a salon in Manhattan which I knew would be pricey. The salon is called Seikomoto. They were very nice..but tend to try and make you buy these special products for Japanese straightening..which quite frankly you can use a regular deep conditioner and get the SAME effects. This was the ONLY place I had gone to that I found was good. They don't use the flat iron to straighten your hair (which pulls and breaks it). They use a double sided flat brush and blow it out straight. The entire process cost $300 but I LOVED it so much after I was done. However, a few months later...I noticed that my hair started breaking (I too had highlights, and dyed my hair). Hair Village will tell you you can have anything done...and charge you for it, but they know that it should not be done. If you insist on having it done..it should be 30 days after you have done any other process. I've heard this process comes out better on 'virgin hair'. I however, think it's best for chinese, japanese, korean girls who have a slight frizz. I will agree that I loved being able to go out in this humidity w/my hair straight and not have it frizz..but in all honesty I started to notice it does not look natural. I've seen girls who leave it stick straight and you can see the broken hair amongst other things. I would blow out my hair w/body..and sometimes put rollers as well on the ends, which made it look aLOt better than letting it air dry. I have pictures to show what it looked like. I swore to never do this again, and decided to let it grow out and don't regret my decision. I'm not knocking any of you who want to get this done..because I too was curious. But ..just be careful and keep in mind that the elasticity of your hair will not be the same..and although it may look good once done...it is ultimately damaging your hair.

Good luck to all of you.

I also have been to Hair Village several times, as well as many other places across Manhattan and Queens. I've been doing it since 2002 and never noticed a problem until about 6 months ago. I have an entire clump of hair at the very top of my head that is broken off. I don't color my hair nor do I use a curling iron/hair dryer excessively. I have long hair, but this thick clump is only about an inch long.

It DOES damage your hair--but I will still keep doing it Anything to keep those curls aways!
