Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, so I just wanted to say Hi.
My question is: can anyone recommend a nice hall that's under $70 a plate? My FH and I are planning to get married in April of 09 (we just got engaged).
Anyway, we keep getting quoted $100 a plate at most places and while I want a nice place, I dont want to break the bank either. Any suggestions?
So far we've looked at Westbury Manor, Villa Lombardis and the North Ritz Club. I really LOVE the WM, but again, they quoted us $98 for a Friday night in April. ahhhh, don't know what to do.

Re: Hall recommendation
It depends on what you are looking for but I am getting married at The Historical Thatched Cottage in Centerport at the end of March and it is under $70 a plate. It overlooks Centerport Harbor and I think the menu includes a lot for the price. I love it. You should look into it! Good luck

Re: Hall recommendation
Villa Lombardi's should fall within your budget i think. If not, maybe if u move the wedding up to March it would still be considered off-peak (pre-spring) so u might get a better rate.
Congrats on your engagement!!!!!!!!

Re: Hall recommendation
I would look at the Fox Hollow, Chateau Briand, Chateau La Mer, Riviera, Watermill, Woodbury Country Club, Stewart Manor CC
All of them quoted me under 70 a person, but granted, it was for January, and April is getting into peak months, but I think it is doable

Re: Hall recommendation
oh how funny, I am actually going to the Thatched Cottage tonight! I went to a wedding there about 5 years ago and thought it was really nice.
Good to know they don't charge an arm and a leg. the thing too is, we both have big families, so we are inviting about 230. I know all may not come, but still that's what is killing us! so we are trying to find a nice place that isn't a fortune.
well I'll keep my fingers crossed! maybe the THatched will work out!!
thanks

Re: Hall recommendation
thanks again everyone for your help! I'll check some of those places out!
we considered a day wedding, but we both really would like a night reception.
and Sunday is out b/c we're getting married at my church.
quick question: has anyone been married or been to a wedding at Westbury Manor? as my FH says 'everything is negotiable' but has anyone tried to get them down in price and succeeded?

Re: Hall recommendation
I was told from a banquet manager that everything is negociable! and trust me it is. you should have more pull since your garentee is over 200, I know that really helped with us. the more you garentee the more they go down! Alot of halls would rather throw in things then come down in price also. But bargin with them. I saw my hall i think three times and negociated with them every time til i though i got the best deal. I even had my parents negociating with them!!! I had things thrown in and price came down a little bit. Also think about going off season, that will bring down price or a friday night instead of sat. I went for a friday night to get the place i dreamed so its up to you and how flexible you are with your date.

Re: Hall recommendation
you might try Larkfield Manor. We looked at a lot of places and came down to that and Westbury manor. we went to see both, told WM about Larkfield but they would not lower their price. LM people were so friendly and accomodating and while they didn't lower the price threw in things worth maybe $5 or 10 pp and this was for guarantee of only 60 people.

Re: Hall recommendation
If you're feeling ambitious in your ability to put together a wedding this summer- go to the Thatched Cottage- they have an opening for Friday July 4th at a discounted price! So you get all the benefits of a summer wedding- warm weather, no rain, plus it's a Holiday so everyone is off from work. You should be able to negotiate 65pp for that date!

Re: Hall recommendation
I think Fox Hollow is close to the amount you're looking for, but you could also check out Cafe on the Green in Queens.

Re: Hall recommendation
Honestly, if you are flexible with the month, you will have an easier time of getting the price you want per person. For April, you'll have a harder time finding that since it's peak wedding season.
As for hall recommendation, I cannot recommend The Metropolitan enough. They did a PHENOMENAL job at our wedding! We keep hoping someone we know will have an event there so we can enjoy from a guest's perspective!
