hand cancelling invites NO NO NO

I just came from the Post Office an they told me they do not hand cancel mail. All mail must go through the machine. I need to check the website. Anyone else have this problem?

I never heard of this! I've read on this site that so many brides have personally hand cancelled their own invites.

I think there are 2 machines... you can eliminate one of the machines by hand canceling them... but honestly... we didnt take the time to hand canceling them and you really couldnt tell the difference...

no true.. if your invite is bulky they won't put it thru thru machine.
go to the post office and ask them for the stamp and you can hand cancel them yourself.

that's what I did.

This is what you need to do- go to a smaller, less busy post office. Also, you can offer to do it yourself if they give you the stamp- just stand there and hand stamp them... maybe they'd allow you to do it then... as long as they could see you doing them.

Tomorrow I will go to the one by my job. The guys told me he would do it no problem. But I did call the 800 number for the post office. The women told me that they have no problem doing the canceling but in the same breathe said that it is up to the individual post office. Thanks Ladies

Stamping the invites manually so they are not run through the machine, possibly getting ruined.

The person just didn't want to sit there and do it lol...Offer to do it yourself, or go somewhere else

This also just happened to me this morning

And I already asked our post office if they let me do it, and they said yes.,.... but then paridoxically, this morning they said 'well sure you can do it, but it will be run through the machine anyway '

I told them that they already said I could 'hand cancel' and doesn't that imply that it won't automatically be machine cancelled afterwards?

Of course there was no response. And yes, port jeff post office is small, and was completely empty at the time. They're just stubborn!

So, in the end, I just handed them the invitations If they get ruined, I swear I'll go postal!

I went to the Saint James post office when we sentout our save-the-dates and I had them hand canceled. I offered to do it myself since we sent out over 100, but the clerk said he didn't mind doing it. Definitely try another post office

it still goes through a machine if you hand cancel BUT it doesnt go through the machine that makes the ugly black lines on your stamps
but there can be other marks on it

no one even looks at the envelope lol

I sent DH to the post office and they told him the same thing, they don't hand cancel anymore. I think personally, they were just saying it because they knew he was just doing what he was told to do by his wife to be and they were too lazy to individually cancel the huge stack of invites DH had with him.
