Handing out invites...tacky???

FH wants to hand out all invites to all people that live in the same area (approx 30 invites). Would this be considered tacky?

I definitely wouldnt hand them out to that many people... the only time i could see myself handing them out is if for some reason it was returned to me after mailing...

It's not tacky to do it if it's part of your tradition. In my family, you are supposed to hand deliver the invites to your close family. Since I only have 7 people in my family and it's part of our family tradition, FH and I will hand deliver it to them.

Yea that's not somethign I would do either.

i did however, hand out invites to my coworkers. They also gave me back my RSVP cards to save the postage (which I didn't really save because the stamp was already on the envelope) and did a verbal RSVP (which throws me off bc I have the memory of a goldfish).

All in all... don't hand them out. If it's to ONLY a few people and for a good reason then OK but not that many people. They should be mailed. Proper etiquette is to mail them.

I agree with you. In certain families and cultures the norm might be to hand deliver it.

But she's asking about people who live within a radious of her house, not nec close family members.

About 20 of those are close family members. Spanish people consider a family friend 'close family'. (Not meant to offend anyone)

I think I'm going to just mail them all, save the headache and worry that someone might lose it once I hand it to them...thanks ladies!!!

I even sometimes consider a close friend a family member!! haha!! my fam is soo small that sometimes my friends are like family. So I totally understand.

You can do it either way. If it were just friends... like regular friends, I'd say it might not be the best idea... but if it were family and it's something they typically do then it's fine to do. And it can save you some postage money.

I didn't want to offend anyone either. I agree with marinai about it being a tradition for her family... in which case it is ok and not tacky. I didn't realize it was close family (or close enough friends that they are considered family).

Haha and some Guyanese people and other related cultures consider those people family.

I have a guyanese friend... and EVERYONE IS AUNT BEBE!!! haha!!! I went to her shower and wedding and all the other events (there's a lot in indian weddings) and every other name being said was AUNT BEBE!! Only to find out NONE of them were her aunt or even technically related to her. It's more like a respect thing I was told.

I am going to mail all of them only becasue my memory is shot and I would probably ride around with the invites in my car forever. If I could I was save on the postage and give them out to anyone I can reach. We are paying so much for this wedding as it is, saving a few bucks on postage is welcomed
