Today is my first suburbs happy hour. I used to work in the city, so if you had a couple of drinks it was no problem - get on the train! Take a cab! Now that I am driving I wonder: isn't happy hour kind of bust out here? I mean, I am terrified to drive if I have more than one drink. I won't do it.

Or maybe suburbanites only have one drink during happy hour? Are my lush colors showing?

I work in the city & I have wondered the same thing. I think people either drive drunk, or pick a designated driver, but that can be ahrd if you are going straight from work.

What's the point of having a half price drink if you can't have two?
I think this is exactly why my DH is so afraid of making the move to suburbs...
It's best to con him in to coming to pick you up!

Re: Happy Hour in the Suburbs
When I used to frequent Long Island happy hours, I'd end up staying really late in attempt to 'sober up' because I never wanted to drink and drive. So happy hour usually ended around 2am or with a ride home from a friend.

DH and I ran into this problem when we moved from the city to suburbs, not so much with Happy Hour but just with going out to eat or going out in general.. We enjoy being lushes and we really missed having to not drive. Usually we will just have a drink or so at dinner and drive home and finish drinking there ... I feel your pain though.

DH and I go out ALOT in the city for this reason alone..... For us it is worth it to take the train, take the subway, go out and have fun, take the train back and either be out so long that were sobered up by the time we get back, OR take a cab from the train station (which isn't bad because its close to our apt)..... Alot of work for a night of drinking

Have the same dilemma. I just drink more at home (cheaper anyway) He just took a job close to the house and I'm still in the city..but I like going home more especially in the summer for some reason.

we feel the same way since moving from the city- it stinks- but sometime we will take a cab if we aren't going to far
we live in Long Beach- so it's not a big deal to take a cab- I wont drink and drive

LOL our lush colors are coming out too bc we have decided to look for a house in huntington when we move out of the city. when ppl ask why, it's embarrassing to say that its partially so we'd live close enough to the bars/restaurants that we wouldnt have to drive of course there's other reasons but that's definitely a big one!

Don't be embarassed..DH and I have already discussed that same thing and decided that thats a really important factor for our first house (to be close to a village type area with bars, restaurants, a cabs ride away).. We are young and have relatively few responsibilities (not thinking of having kids for awhile) so we want to be able to embrace it and enjoy.

DH and I have a co-op in Huntington Village so we can pretty much walk to any happy hour and I always really push for a happy hour in the village. So I don't know what other people do.
