so...i got a call from my old best friend from high school. She started by saying 'omg I have so much to tell you, I'm getting married!' so i say 'oh wow, really? thats awesome...so when did he ask?' 'around halloween' to which i reply 'oh wow so did you guys set a date?' ...'yeah, December 14th' ...'oh how wonderful' 'yeah sooo...9 days!!!...and we're looking to buy a house in ur neighborhood. remember my friend i told you about? she wants to talk to you. so she gets on and tells me...the bridal shower is THIS SATURDAY AND SHE'S REGISTERED AT ___ AND __.!!!' are you friggin kidding me?!?! I'm so very happy for her don't get me wrong...but...where tf were you when i got engaged and moved into my home...nowhere to be found...and now i don't find out until 9 days before ur wedding that ur getting married...but i am expected to be at a bridal shower and bring my gift in only 4 days?!?!?!
I'm kind of annoyed right now to say the least.
please don't quote...i'll prob delete

I would 100% not go to that shower, I think that is rude and tactless and obviously she is not a real friend.
Sorry for being brutally honest but I think that is sickening what she did

i have no idea. i mean...I'm not the type to be a bad friend just because someone else is...BUT I am working during the day on saturday and my FIL's are having the dance school nutcracker recitals this wknd and i was going to go there after work on saturday...I mean i could get out of it but...ugh...I dunno. I'm just kinda feeling like...should i really bail on the recitals to go and then after this she drops off the face of the planet again?
BTW: this is the friend whom i was debating on making a BM but decided against it because she's not reliable and never shows up when she says she will. I haven't seen her in at least a year and before that it had been like 8 months to a yr and same before that. when she was preggo...i went to her house every day and asked if there was anything she needed, brought her cinnabons, helped her. I was there when she gave birth...but when i got my first apt...she never came to see it...she didn't visit when i got engaged...and she lived LITERALLY 1 block away!

Girl, I dont know how you have the patience anymore for her. She has to know what a bad friend she is and it sounds like she takes advantage and uses you when she needs you. I dont think you should bail on your recitals. You have been a good friend and you cant keep being the one who puts the effort in when the other person obviously doesnt care.

Re: happy, mad, shocked...
yep. its not gonna be a big wedding...her FH asked her if if she wanted a big wedding or a house...she chose a house so ...she didn't even give me details of the wedding so I don't even know if i'm invited...but its in 9 days so...I'm gonna go ahead and assume its such a small affair that i'm not invited.

You are not invited but you should buy her a shower gift with 4 days notice Come on, it doesn't get more offensive than that

Re: happy, mad, shocked...
Personally, when I got engaged...I went around telling evvverryonnnee....I sent my wedding web page out to old friends i haven't talked to in a while (which was sooo not a good move, because now people think they're invited but aren't because I can't afford to invite everyone), but I digress....my point is, even if she was a long lost friend who wanted you to celebrate the excitement with her....she should have told you about it before now. The fact that she didn't would make me feel that she didn't think of me till now...perhaps even not till it was time to get a gift?....and that would make me not go to the shower. I would probably send a card, but not even get a gift for her. JMO.
