Hardwood Flooring Question...(Not Wedding Related)
Has anyone had, or know of anyone who has had, hardwood floors refinished? Our goal was to have ours done soon, then have furniture delivered before Christmas. Guess we`re running out of time!! I`ve seen ads for places that have dust free methods, and I wonder how 'dust free' they really are. My parents recently had their floors done, and they said there was dust everywhere, even though they hung tarps up all around the rooms that were done. I`ve also heard conflicting opinions on what`s better .. oil-based or water-based methods. Anyway, if anyone can give any opinions, advice, suggestions, etc., I`d really appreciate it. A couple of companies we were thinking of calling are: Callahan Brothers Richard Baltar Heritage

Hardwood Flooring Question...(Not Wedding Related)
Hi kel We had our floors done when we moved into our house. I don't remember having too much of a dust problem but the smell was really bad. And we had them done in the winter so we couldn't even open the windows for an extended period of time. That is something to consider. If you would like the name of the guy we used (he is a small at home business guy) let me know

we just had ours done
We just had 3 rooms in our new house re-done. The floors in those rooms were made of pine wood. Because the lady that had lived in the house before us had wall to wall carpeting over them, the floors were in good shape, or so we thought. We called around and got three estimates - all over the phone based on the total square footage. All three basically offered the same price - about $1.50/sq. ft. My FH picked the company (P&G if I recall) to do our floors. The first day they came to sand, and told us that the floors were a little water damaged. The steam cleaning of the carpets from the lady who lived there before us had moisture retained and it had no way to dry, so they had to sand more of the wood floor to get rid of it (slight water damage you couldn't see from the naked eye). We definitely did not have a company that was dustless!! We had a fine dust all over everything in the house, even rooms we didn't have done. We did not stain the floors so to speak, we just had them apply the highest grade, gloss finish polyurethane. And then they came back a third day to put a sealer on it. We couldn't be happier, the floors look awesome. The day they sanded was no problem. We just had to wipe off all counters and such. The day they actually applied the polyurethane, the house had a really bad smell, but we stayed there that night and lived to tell about it. The sealer the third day wasn't any better, but 2 days after all was said and done, the smell was gone. I have to say water-based is better, but based on the smell of ours, I'd say ours was oil based. Here is some advice I have to offer: ask if they have dustless methods and if not, do they clean up after themselves; ask if they fill in cracks in between the wood planks that may need it; ask what type of stain they use if you go that route; ask what grade polyurethane they use (marine grade is best); references (we didn't get references, we went on gut and thankfully we are very pleased). I am sure I left some good points out, so if you have any questions, post again or email me at [email protected] Good Luck.Welcome New Vendors
