My RH gave me a list of things that I need to bring with me the day that I make my final payment and one of the things on the list was the tip for the Maitre'd and bridal attendant! They want this a week before the wedding! I'm not doing it because they haven't performed their service yet - what if they are not good. And what if they base their performance on the tip?! Am I being unreasonable by refusing to do this??

Not at all! But... My RH includes the tip in the price though.. so technically they are getting their tip b4 their servies.. but it's only a certain percentage and if they are really really good then I can give them a little more.. bc what they included as the tip was on the low end of the percentage I think. Some places like to do it so that you don't have to pay anything to them on the day of and it limits how much cash you need to bring with you on the day of.

IMO I don't think you're being unreasonable. What are they going to do if you don't bring the tip? Call everything off ?
Just tell them you will give them the tip when the services are completed

What?! That sounds fishy... No way I'd tip them beforehand

That seems odd. I would def say they can get their tip AFTER they perform the service.

I asked about the 20% and they said it does not include the Maitre'd or Bridal Attendant. I was warned of that.

That's what I thought! - They basically are asking to be tipped. I have never heard of such a request.

The Royalton asked for $500 (I think it was $500)for the tips. So it's not TOTALLY unheard of. I can understand being annoied by it or questioning it though. If you feel totally uncomfortable with it then let them know and they should be willing to work something out with you.

Re: Has anyone been asked to do this....
I just paid for two weddings for my daughters and the tip was included in the bill except for the maitre'd. I was not required to pay the tip in advance and would not have, if asked to. Also, they can only suggest a tip, they can't tell you what you have to tip this person. We had one wedding where we were very happy with the service and another where we were not, and tipped accordingly.

NO!!! i wasnt asked to pay the tip beforehand, to me that doesnt make sense and tip is optional anyways so to ask for it and expect a deadline on it is wrong.
I tipped maitre'd, bridal attendants but did it at the end of the night on wedding day.

Wow that is pretty audacious ..... what is their incentive to provide good service?

Re: Has anyone been asked to do this....
My RH incorporates the tip into our actual 'price'... which I think is about $3 pp... To me, I don't really mind... I think he already deserves it b/c he's already done sooo much for us...it's crazy! But, stupid me, I always forget his name!!! LOL

I don't mind them suggesting what to tip - it's the tipping a week prior that i have a problem with.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!!! that's absurd... i wouldn't give it to them... and a tip is at the customer's discretion!!! it is NOT mandatory!!!!!

Nope, I wouldn't tip them before either. You tip after the service was provided. I doubt you are the first bride that your hall has seen that thinks this is fishy.

maybe they meant the tip thats included with the RH price..not your personal tip....
