to a wedding where the bride walks down the aisle herself?
My parents are divorced and my dad and I were never close. I was going to have both parents walk me down the aisle, but the relationship between my parents and I has been strained lately and I am just exhausted. I would prefer to just not deal with it. Is walking alone something very uncommon?

yes - the wedding i was just at in Nova Scotia (a jersey couple, destination wedding) did that very thing!
Her mother and father were at the ceremony, but she is VERY independent and walked down the aisle herself.

I went to one wedding where the bride walked down by herself. I didn't know the bride and groom that well so I did wonder why she did that. A few people might have questions but who cares? If that's the way you want it, do it!

That's what I am worried about- people will talk. But you are right, it is my wedding and I shouldn't care what people think.

I was going to do that. I was going to go half way stop and wait for FH and he would come get me and we would go together. I don't have a great relationship with my mom but I felt bad since she pretty much raised me w/out my real father. So, I feel your pain with the decsion. I say go with what you heart says.

Honestly, it's YOUR day..do what makes YOU happy. I looked this up for you, because if I explained it it wouldn't make sense LOL
Why give the bride away? In most societies throughout history, marriage has been more about social and economic expediency than about love. Weddings were often arranged by a couple’s parents, when the bride and groom were still in early childhood, and were based on the families’ respective social standing and offerings. Even if the bride and groom had chosen each other, there were certain prerequisites before a wedding could take place. Sometimes the groom’s family was required to pay a 'bride’s price,' essentially purchasing the bride from her family and reimbursing them for their loss. For her part, the bride often had a dowry, or an accumulation of possessions and money that she took with her into the marriage. All terms had to be settled before the marriage ceremony could take place.
On the wedding day, the father of the bride would present his daughter to the groom. He would then 'give her away', thus verbally acknowledging that all arrangements had been fulfilled and he was satisfied with their union. The bride’s family no longer had any legal claim on her, and she became dependent upon her husband and his family.
See, NONE of us go through this today ( or I should say MOST of us don't)....you are free to do what you want!

I've never been to a wedding where that has been done but I have heard of it being done. I think you should do what you are comfortable with and what makes you happy!!

Re: Has anyone ever been...
My father is deceased & I have been very stressed about the situation. I don't want my mom to walk me down the aisle. I think my nephew will and he is only 18 but I don't care what people will say. I know that is who My Dad would want to do it.
I went to a wedding last year in CA & the bride walked herself. It's more common then we think. This is why I had a question up a few weeks ago about wearing vail over face. I don't want to do it.

I just love the nontraditional aspects of a wedding! In my opinion, It represents your tastes, not to mention evokes excitement.
My son is walking me. I love my mother, but this has been a trying time.
Enjoy!!

I went to a wedding where the bride walked down the aisle and then the groom met her halfway down the aisle and walked up with her, it was very beautiful

I am making a statement, I am walkingbymyself. I don't get along with my dad or brother, and I will be just fine.

I actually think it is cool....all eyes are on you at that moment. My father is dead, and yes, for me, having anyone else draws attention to his absence.
