Has anyone ever heard of putting a little menu card in with the invite so when they asap you know what they are going to order? I thought that this would cut down on food waste at the wedding. I have never gotten a card like that but that doesn't mean that it can't be done right?? Also I thought it would allow for the party to get started a lot quicker since I am having a sit down dinner and the normal way these days would be for people to sit and get their orders taken and then they have to wait for the party to start but that takes too long sometimes. I don't know I guess this is turning into a little rant haha.

I've received invitations like that. It's really no big deal - it just gives the caterer the heads up of approximately how many chicken, beef, etc., meals to prepare.
No one is going to hold you to to the choice you made. I'm sure at some point, I've checked off 'chicken' and gotten to the wedding when they asked what I wanted, I must have replied 'fish.' No biggie. It's a common practice in a lot of places.
Totally embarrassing, I had to choose ahead for a rehearsal dinner in MA last year, and I didn't want the steak I ahd chosen, so I switched to fish thinking it wasn't a big deal- the mother of the groom found out someone had switched and started asking who did it and asked for someone to take the extra steak instead of what they ordered. I was mortified- and totally didn't own up to being the one who switched.
I would die!

My RH requires us to do this... and I think it's good b/c I think it helps food NOT go to waste.
I am hoping to pick out the menu before, so I can offer a description of what it will actually be on the card, so that it's a bit easier for people.

I got an invite with that in it and I was fine with it. I was happy that I didnt have to choose the day of. If thats what you want to do then go for it. some will like it and some won't but its your wedding.

It's a relatively dying practice. I don't think many people do it anymore, but it's always an option.
With that said, considering your RSVP date is probably at least a month before the wedding, I don't particularly like the idea. How would I know a month in advance what I'm going to want to eat that night???
I agree...however, I am not completely averse to it, but I don't care for it, and as long as the menu states what each meal was specfically, I'd feel a little better picking ahead of time.
