Has anyone ever tried to pull off a full family portrait before Cocktail Hr.?

If I give a note to each family member asking them to get to the reception hall 20 minutes early - and wait at the front in their family groups - do you think that will work.

I just wanted a portrait with FH's side and with my side, because no one is really ever together in a group anymore

I think that would be a great idea! I think they'd be flattered too!

I did this at the reception. It was one of the only posed pics taken at the reception. I do like the card idea however.

my DHs
my moms side
my dads side
my stepmoms side

I wish I had thought of it...I didn't even think of a family portrait. But that sounds like a great and feasible plan!

We did this and were able to get all sides of the families. We spoke to all of our family and asked that they be at the hall a half hour before cocktail hour to take pics. Some were late and one of DH's cousins missed the picture but I wanted a picture free coctail hour.

We are going to have both families come 45 minutes before CH to try to get all the family pics done before CH starts. We'll see how it goes.

I think its a good idea - we did it during our CH but that gave us less time for pics with just the 2 of us and we couldnt go to the CH.

we're taking all the portraits for 2 hours before the ceremony.

I love the idea of sending your family a note. it will make them feel so special and honored.

We pulled ours off during the reception. It was right before the first course. The band was missing the conga guy, so it was perfect timing.

it wasted sooo much time b/c there were just way too many pics. i wish we hadn't wasted all the time, don't have any pics with friends - just lots with family members i hardly know.

my fhs family does it for EVERY wedding... they just tell people to get to the place a 1/2 hour before... never had a problem yet
