Has anyone gotten sick doing a low carb???

I've been on it for two weeks now - and I wasn't feeling well last night - and then I woke up in the middle of the night with bad stomach pains -
Today I'm still not feeling well - I ate two of those atkins bars - can that do it?
I'm going off of it b/c I don't think it agrees with me
Just curious if this happened to anyone else.

Which atkin bars? Look at the label - I find my stmach is very sensitive to the sugar alcohols so I try to limit them.

Sometimes your body can feel sick from not enough carbs... I try and follow a low carb diet. but in the beginning i did feel nausea alot. It also has to do with the fact that being on this type of diet you lose a lot of water and if you are not drinking enough water to replace it you can become dehydrated. Be sure to drink lots of liquids and if you do feel nausea you should give yourself some carbs. I follow a very modified low carb diet.
sometimes if i felt sick that was my bodys way of telling me that i now needed to refuel it with some type of carbs (more than likely a good starch--like pasta)

I have eaten the Atkins bars. They didn't make me sick.

Ummmm....they sell Atkins supplements that you can take.

It can definetly be the bars. A while back I was eating a lot of sugar free bars and cookies, and I too would feel sick. It's the artificial sweeteners. The one that made me sick is an ingredient called maltional, which is in many of these bars and low carb foods. I think it even had an effect on my menstrual cycle, because my periods got messed up. There are many artificial sweetners, (maltional, splenda, sacchrin, aspartame, erithonal (i spelled it wrong), and I'm sure many others. Try to avoid these if you can.

The two Atkins bars may be what did it. Something similar happened to me. It's the sugar alcohols.

When I did Atkins, I tried to eat as little processed stuff as possible. I tried to stick to meat and salads for lunch and dinner. Once in a while I'd have a low-carb chocolate bar (but I never liked those Atkins bars). Pure DeLite makes the best ones. They taste just like real chocolate.

I was very nauseous in the beginning too-stay away from the processed stuff!! Just because it is low carb does not by any means mean it is good for you! I also found that eating too many acidic veggies was making my stomach icky. i was popping cherry tomatoes like candy, and then realized it was them making me feel gross. You have to balance things out with lean meats and fresh veggies-i love dipping carrots in Ranch dressing!

a friend of mine stayed on a very serious low carb diet for too long. SHe was on phase one for months and damaged her thyroid (now hyperactive). Of course anything to the extreme will hurt your body, but my advice is to not take 'low carb' and turn it into 'no carb'

definitely make sure that you're not doing NO carb......that can do permanent damage to your organs and then losing weight will be the least of your concerns.
stick with low carb....it takes you rbody some getting used to, so wait it out for a little while.
if you don't feel better after a week, skip it and try a different diet!!

I was on the South Beach Diet for about three months before my wedding. I do recommend it as a healthy, low carb way to lose weight, but PLEASE make sure you are drinking LOTS and LOTS of water on these diets!! Not to be gross, but this diet really affects your whole digestive patterns - if you know what I mean - and if you are cutting out carbs completely or even drasticaly reducing them in your diet, it will really make you have strange stomach pains. I'm not sure if it's constipation (yuk, sorry!) or just lack of fiber, but it used to make my tummy hurt from time to time, and that's no fun

I wouldn't say it made me sick, but I felt a little more regular once I went back to eating normally after my wedding. I definitly was happy to eat bread again, I just don't know HOW people can do these diets permanently!! :)

gross fact, works great:
I drank sugar-free orange metamucil every day when the pains were bad-it is the greatest thing ever.
