Re: has anyone had bronchitis before?
Yes I've had it and it was traveling up my neck and throat and I waited at least a week before I went to the doctor and he gave me the 5 day antibiotic pack and by the end of that I felt like a million dollars.
I 'm a little surprised you haven't felt any better being on the medicine for a week, I'd give the doctor a call. Feel better!

Re: has anyone had bronchitis before?
I had bronchitis every November from 1978 until 1990 - no joke. Only twice since then...once for 3 mos. because I didn't have health insurance at the time so I refused to go to the doctor! I'm lucky it didn't turn into pneumonia.
Yes, your chest hurts but as long as you keep taking your antibiotics it should be about 2 weeks or so, depending on how bad you are.
Feel better soon!

Oh you poor thing!!!! I get bronchitis at least once a year. Unfortunately it takes several weeks to actually clear up completely. the antibiotics will work in about a week( could be slightly longer depending on what you are taking). You should also use an expectorant cough syrup to help break apart what you have in your chest. And sometimes, very rarely, you have to go through more then one antibiotic cycle to get better. Just rest and drink lots of water. I hope you feel better soon!!!!!

Re: has anyone had bronchitis before?
I am a social smoker who has mild asthma and I get it every year. It usually takes a bout a week to shake loose. And then I usually have a hideous cough that lasts for two weeks. My doc took a recent chest x-ray and said that i have some slight scar tissue from bronchitis on one of the lower lobes of my left lung. She said at my age my lungs should be pristine and they're not...

I get it every year, and it lingers FOREVER. It's a real b*tch. I hope you're feeling better soon.
I have also had bronchitis every year since 18 days old!!
my mother always swore by humidifiers...it helps to break up the plegm...
my doctor rx me an inhaler (like an asthmatic...although I don't have asthma) and I use it when my chest gets tight...
there are some awesome cough medicines that a dr could rx as well..
if you are wheezing...GET TO A DR!!! it can cause emphasema...even if you have never smoked a cigarette...

If you are having trouble sleeping, ask your dr. for Tussinex (sp?). It's a really potent cough medicine with codeine. You will sleep like a baby and not cough once.

I have had bronchitis alot! You needto cough up the rest of the stuff before your chest will feel better. All of that coughing alone casue your chest to hurt. Ifthe mucus colorhasnb't changed for the betterthen I would say go back to the doctor and if you haven't been feeling any better at all or worse,go back to the doctor.

Re: has anyone had bronchitis before?
I've had a few cases of bronchitis, and granted they were mild to moderate, but a week with no improvement seems like too long to me. Go see your MD!!! Feel better!
any of you guys take Marix when you were younger? I used to hate it...but mom would always make me take it...I found out the FDA took it off the market!! yikes!!

Re: has anyone had bronchitis before?
I get bronchitis every year also. The only way to describe it is like someone holding open your lungs with 2 forks!!! Get plenty of rest, take your Rx, and drink lots of fluids. For the cough there used to be a Rx for a pill , I do not know if it is still on the market, the cough is the worst part and usually takes the longest to go away. Feel better soon.
