has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

Original post by Espo22

Ok so we had a little bit of an awkward situation, well for only me and fh bc we didn't know how it would be handled when the time comes...but basically we were with family this weekend and they were with their 8-9 kids, this is a few family members and the parent of one of the kids said to the kids 'YAY you're going to a wedding soon'...i didn't hear it but FH did and told me, first he said 'i guess we're inviting kids'. Although FH's parents did say months ago that they would let ppl know about this, so maybe i should just let them handle this

NOW let me explain that I would LOVE kids at the wedding but a few, problem is with all the people we're inviting there could possibly be 20-30 kids or even more and thats just a bit TOO much...first is the problem that with that many kids it will become a bit much, thats way too many kids running around, screaming and going nuts lol...another big problem is that kids meals which are chicken fingers and fries will be about $80-90 which is alot to pay for chicken fingers and especially since alot of kids don't even eat their meals, not to mention that if we invite kids then that means we'll have extra tables to make room for everybody which means more cp's and more money so we're talking about a couple thousand dollars extra to invite kids. Plus i also think that its not an appropriate event for a child, it will end at 1:30 am

SO i was thinking of maybe hiring babysitters, and i guess they would stay at the hotel with the kids? not even sure, does anybody know? has anyone looked into this and found out prices or how it would work?

i did not read through all the replies, so please don't shoot me lol...

I was a 'professional' babysitter for a while there... I had all the certificates and everything. I'm also a trained camp counselor and I was a preschool teacher/day care worker as well...

so, if any of you need or want a babysitter I am available

hm.. i didn't read through all three pages, but it seems that u have some fantastic suggestions comign in..
here's a couple of thoughts in case u do have to let the kids come..

1. don't get centerpieces for their tables.. shucks they won't appreciate them any dang on way..that will cut down on the cost of cp..

2. keep an activity table ready.. with crayons, glue, crafts, maybe get that high school student to monitor that table.

3. expect that those folks with kids will prob leave early.. 1:30 is late so they prob wont' hang that long..

4. ask JT about a kids menu.. i looked there and I think they had a reduced price kids menu.. if it's still the same $80 or $90 that they charge for adults.. skip it.. let hte kids eat just cake and ice cream at dessert.. (that's all they're gonna wanna eat anyway..lol)

5. don't do the babyistting in your bridal suite.. if they have another one available fine but not in ur's.. that leaves to many people with access to u'r bridal suite and u may have personal, items stored in there..

6.. Im available to babysit at weddings.. and i dont charge much.. just a plate of food please..

$80-90 is the kids meal, we asked about it...for adults were paying more so that is less than the adults price.

See thats what i wonder with the cp's, now if i put all the kids at one table then its fine but most likely kids will sit at tables with their parents so it would probably end up being regular cp's

thank you for the offer, you girls should post threads offering your services, im sure you'll all get alot of responses

for us - for the kids table - we're doing butcher paper and giving them a huge bucket of crayons as the centerpiece...

will also put down some coloring books, puzzles, etc...

Re: has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

When I was a teen I had a lot of cousins get married and a few of them who didn't want to have kids (but had to cause that's tradition in my family) hired my best friend to babysit at the reception. I always thought it was great cause my best friend got to be there with me! But at the same time I have to say it was proabably a bit of a waste because to be honest the kids seem to either still go to their parents/grandparents/fav. fam members or the older ones just all stay together and dance or watch people dance. I mean she would get them to sit and eat but the parents would always come over to make sure they were eating and stuff too. So I don't know...I think it can be a good idea but I don't know if it's that worth it.

I'm having a decent number of kids at the wedding myself and it's not that I mind it's just that a few of them (ones who didn't want kids at their weddings by the way) let them just run wild and I'm sorry - I'm a teacher so I'm very used to wanting kids behaving in certain appropriate ways haha - especially at my wedding!

that is expensive
we are paying 1/3 for kids under 12 and vendors so the kids meal is about 35 bucks

oh i dont mean for them to be at the rh, bc another problem is that i would have to pay about $80-$90 for each kid for a chicken finger and fries meal...i would get a babysitter to stay with them at the hotel probably

yeah the money thing is definitely a factor...i am gonna bring it up to fh after the football game...see i dont mind kids being there but we would have WAY too many and having lets say 20-something kids between the ages of 2-7 can get too hectic.
