has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

Original post by Espo22

Ok so we had a little bit of an awkward situation, well for only me and fh bc we didn't know how it would be handled when the time comes...but basically we were with family this weekend and they were with their 8-9 kids, this is a few family members and the parent of one of the kids said to the kids 'YAY you're going to a wedding soon'...i didn't hear it but FH did and told me, first he said 'i guess we're inviting kids'. Although FH's parents did say months ago that they would let ppl know about this, so maybe i should just let them handle this

NOW let me explain that I would LOVE kids at the wedding but a few, problem is with all the people we're inviting there could possibly be 20-30 kids or even more and thats just a bit TOO much...first is the problem that with that many kids it will become a bit much, thats way too many kids running around, screaming and going nuts lol...another big problem is that kids meals which are chicken fingers and fries will be about $80-90 which is alot to pay for chicken fingers and especially since alot of kids don't even eat their meals, not to mention that if we invite kids then that means we'll have extra tables to make room for everybody which means more cp's and more money so we're talking about a couple thousand dollars extra to invite kids. Plus i also think that its not an appropriate event for a child, it will end at 1:30 am

SO i was thinking of maybe hiring babysitters, and i guess they would stay at the hotel with the kids? not even sure, does anybody know? has anyone looked into this and found out prices or how it would work?

i am having the same issue. I'm trying to look into it and feel confused as to what to do.

I did just find out though that we have access to the bridal suite for the entire night -so we can hire someone to stay with the YOUNG kids in there....but WHO?????

yeah i was thinking about the bridal suite and then its also the issue of a baby sitter staying that late but im sure some would.

Are there any teenage kids in your neighborhood who babysit for alot of kids around your way? i guess i can look into this

I live in Jersey - i don't live in NY anymore - and two of the kids will be VERY young (barely 2) - so i can't trust a teenager with them the way I would with kids 5-10....

yeah very true, thats why i prefer to hire this lady who has kids of her own and has done this for weddings before, a teenager is a little different when theyre so young.

There has to be some type of service for something like this, ill look up info and let you know if i find something. Ill look more into it when i get home

I have tried looking into it with VERY little success. I even asked my RH to see if they had someone they used or preferred...but they don't...

LOL hey this could be a new business to start LOL

Seriously though it is agreat idea

Is it out of the question to NOT invite the kids? Just sent the invites to the adults (Mr & Mrs XYZ) and if they question it then let your parents deal with the issue? I'm just worried that if you hire sitters than how are you going to explain to the parents to bring the kids but that they can't actually come to the wedding itself?

well thats the plan, the parents said they will let everyone know...i just felt bad about a few ppl, our oot guests. Now it makes even harder that the kids were told they are going to our wedding but ill tell fh to talk to his parents about it and see what they say now

Yeah, you can't feel bad about that though. They should never have opened their mouths until they were sure. People should never assume things when it comes to weddings. It's like promising a kid a cookie...you better not do it unless you're 100% sure there's a cookie there somewhere....

I was just going to say this too. They shouldn't assume that their kids will be invited.

i dont agree with this
i think when it is an out of town wedding, it should be SAFE to assume the family is invited
i guess my family is different - we always invite the kids

Definitely different for every family. We have some OOTers that are family and their kids are not invited and it's def. not something that is expected of us. I wasn't invited to my cousin's weddings when I was under 18.....they're just not events for children with us.

see i have no idea how this is handled bc we don't have alot of kids in my family lol so this was never an issue.

heres what i dont understand, for our e-party we said no kids and it worked out fine...so i would think that if we did that for the e-party we just might do it for the wedding. My moms friends made sure to ask about inviting their kids to the wedding bc of what we did at the e-party and the ones who asked have older kids who are like 15-16 years old so thats fine

soooooooo funny.....I thought of this, but my aunts were against it. The one problem is that if the kid has a melt down- they're close enough to be pulled out of the wedding...especially with smaller kids. Its a GREAT gesture, but ultimately its not ur responsibility....btw I only say that because I had to convince myself of that too...I know how it is....I have 20 something kids that need to be accounted for.

JMO!!!I just think it might cause more headaches then its worth.

Re: has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

i just started looking into this. actual the hotel where ppl are staying recommended this one place. im not originally from here so i dont know how 'great/reputable' this place is...butttt

rent a sitter
http://www.rentasitter.com/

I called them last week just to get an idea of prices (which i have at home)

but off the top of my head - there was a set up fee (maybe $50) and then u pay the sitter per hour (min 4 hrs). i forget the rate but it was something like $15-20 per hour per sitter. you can hire multiple sitters for larger groups of kids etc.

it seemed a little pricey for a sitter (versus getting someone u know).

im also going to look into daycares around the area maybe they have ppl that will do it for less.

btw...we're not paying for the sitters...just sending info along to ppl w/kids if they are looking for services (mostly oot guests).

It definitely couldn't hurt to see how much she'd charge for a wedding!!!! I truly appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!

Re: has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

that's probably how they make their $...BUT new clients receive a 10% discount when mentioning the web site and an extra 5% by filling out the form online...so u save like 8 bucks ha.

i dont want each person paying $50 bucks...so if i could get everyone on 'one order' i guess it wouldnt be so bad...but that's why im looking into daycares in the area.

i tried asking around to see if anyone had ever heard of them or used them, but i havent heard/found anything yet.

I've thought about this (for the few kids that are at the wedding who are in the BP). I was thinking of having someone stay at the hall (in the other room with the kids)-friend of a friend or a BM friend.

This is what we're doing for our BP kids. If they get tired there are 2 sitters in the bridal suite to play with them/watch them ,etc. However, we are not having other kids at the bridal party and i honestly do not think that it is your responsibility to handle their childcare or paying for it. If you have OOT people then maybe you can suggest people but i really do not think it is your responsibility.

i know, im wondering how its my responsibility or why im taking this on like it is i agree i'll pass along the information...well actually ill wait to see what fh says and ill let them handle it...but i guess its bc part of me feels bad

Re: has anyone looked into babysitters at the wedding

to be honest, as i always am
I do feel it is somewhat our responsibility because though they may not be 'our' children, it is a service that is a nice gesture to provide for your guests if you dont want them AT the reception and they are coming from out of town to be there for you

sorry JMO

I don't think it's your responsibity either. If you WANT to do it, it's lovely, but not required. These are adults and if they want to be somewhere they will figure it out. You can suggest people, that would be very helpful, but you do not need to pay for it. If I was traveling out of town for a family wedding and I had small children I would most likely arrange for childcare where I live and only go for a short trip. But if I HAD to bring them with me, I would figure it out, that's a consequence of me feeling like I have to bring my children with me.
