Has anyone seen this: Election Map by county

Even in NY and California, Bush won most of the counties. He just didn't win the most populated ones. I find that very interesting.

This is from USA today a day or so ago.

i thought that was interesting too, though that map is slightly misleading b/c in many many counties it was like a 51-49% split, not a big difference. if you go on cnn and click each individual state it give a better perspective.

It makes perfect sense, actually...but it shows that the dems really need to reach out to rural voters!

I was surprised to see that most of LI voted for Kerry. It felt like FH and I were seriously outnumbered!

Kerry only won Suffolk by 2000 votes. He won Nassau by a little more. Very close race in Long Island.

Also... does anyone else know that the state of Florida received I think 2 MILLION more votes than the state of New York?

I couldn't believe it. HUGE voter turnout in Florida. I guess a lot of people in NY felt that it was a waste of time to vote figuring it would be Kerry.

I think its unfair to assume that people didnt turn out to vote because of Kerry's possible win..some actually didnt think either candidate was worthy.

Most of the red counties down south and in midwest only have a couple of hundred or a few thousand people in them. Most of the countys Kerry won has 100's of thousands of people in them.

Actually Kerry only got 59 percent of the LI vote..I was shocked! I thought he would have got much higher..

In suffolk it was 50-50!

Hey I think 59% is pretty good.

59%, was low IMO...

Good to me would be 75% to 25% or 80%-20%..that nmeans a landslide.. anything close to the 50% means that people were divided.

Having almost 60% of the vote is no landslide, but like I said before it's pretty good. It signifies unquestionably that people in general favored Kerry. We are talking about almost 10% percentage points, not 2 %.

IMO...60% is good because it wins ...

IMO...it definately doesn't signify unquestionably anything...except that people were divided and kerry won marginally.

which was shocking to me!

Good point-perhaps my language was too strong in using the word 'unquestionably', but when it comes any vote, there are two or more sides,so there must be division. I guess I don't understand what you mean when you use the word divided. Do you mean you expected more people to support Kerry?

Yes, I thought that more people were going to vote for Kerry.. I thought he was going to easily get 75%...so i was shocked when it was only 59%

Where are you guys getting that 59% number for Long Island? According the CNN, Kerry didn't even receive 51% of the Long Island vote:

Nassau
Kerry: 312,388
Bush: 278,727
Other: 6,902
(Total: 598,017)

Suffolk
Kerry: 303,375
Bush: 301,710
Other: 14,210
(Total: 619,295)

Kerry total for LI: 615,763 out of 1,217,312

That percentage is not even 51% (50.58%).
