I used a balance transfer check which basically comes out of my credit card..but it's at 0% interest until 5/2009. We're going to pay it off with wedding money right away we. That was the best option for us.

You should recieve balance transfer offers every month-2 months. Read the fine print though!

This is so sad that we need to think of things like this. I didn't think of it and instead have racked up like $7000 on my credit card just for little things here and there.

For vendors, nobody takes credit cards really which stinks. I would have LOVED to have put the huge hair and makeup bill for my bridal party and myself on that card. Oh well.

angl2001 did. Speaking of - where the heck did she go?

I recommend you don't though. It's not worth it to be in hock just for a wedding. How much are you thinking you'll need? 10K, 20K, 30K.

If it's anything over 20K - I suggest scaling back. So many girls on here have had fabulous, dream weddings for half that.

In any case - I hope everything works out for you!!! Planning should be fun, not spent stressing about money!

eta: I didn't mean to preach, sorry.

I agree with a PP - 0% cards are the way to go.

I Had to take a loan out also. My brother helped me take it out because he had money from a malpractice suit from when he was a baby. He borrowed money from his CD. But It gets paid back monthly of course with intrest.... Thank God for him, because I dont know what else we would have done. I love him so much!

If you have one i suggest this. It doesnt go against your credit and all interest (5%) gets paid back to me. My job automatically takes the payments out of my paychecks but i can pay it back at anytime. I feel im not anywhere close to retirement so its not going to really affect anything, and ill be paying it back right after the wedding.

we took out a line of credit on our co-op to help pay for the wedding. Do you own a home?

I agree with Jenn. If there are things you can scale back on, do it. You don't want to come home from you huggymoon to 10k of debt... plus, the money you get at the wedding could be a nice little down payment towads a house.

we took out a loan, unfortunately saving for a wedding a paying a mortgage don't go hand in hand. so we had to take a loan, it is what it is and we'll pay it off in the next 5 years.

That is sooo true. Fh and I have two mortgages. I have my co-op mortgage and he has his house mortgage. That's why we ultimately had to use the blance transfer offer. We figured we'll pay it off by the time the offer expires with wedding money or with our income tax checks...either way we won't be saving for a wedding next year so it will def. go. But mortgaes and wedding savings...a hard combination.

I agree... no loan... besides, these days, you'll have a hard time finding a bank that will give you $$$.

We really didn't start saving until abour a year before our wedding. We socked away about $10K and we really had all the time in the world to save that money because we really didn't have to touch it until about a month or 2 before the wedding when we had to start paying people. If you can't save, than definitely consider the 0% CC.

good luck!

A huggymoon Danielle? Did you mean to type that? That is the cutest word everrrrrr...

To the OP - honestly - if I had to take out a $7K loan for my wedding - I would have. I wouldn't have traded my wedding for the world.

If you know you'll get it, and you know you'll be able to pay it back - do it. It's an intangible investment. You can ALWAYS make more money. Second and third jobs....

Anything over 10K and I'd say hell no. Or anything that would give you anxiety I'd also say hell no. Stressing over money/a jam that you got yourself into - not worth it.

Danielle is at the grocery store, but yes 'Huggymoon' is her and Joey's word. It's addicting, a few of us now use it.

HAHA! Yes, I meant to write it. My mom started calling it that a long time ago and i stole it from her. I know some LIW brides have adopted it as well!
