Have any of your guests said your wedding date is not convenient for them??
Original post by AllJoy
I'm in the mood to inlaw bash. Just wondering if anyone voiced their opinion that they weren't happy w/your wedding date.
Our Wedding is Sept. 2-Labor Day Weekend. FBIL- 'I wish your wedding was in the middle of the summer, that would be better for us. My son starts school two days later and we have to get him ready.'
What I would have liked to have said-'I realize that kids do need alot of things for the 1st day of school, but you have 1 child, he is 10 years old and your wife doesn't work. You have all summer to get him ready!!' (FH spoke to him).

My uncle said that my date is bad luck because he and my great aunt were married this date and are now divorced.
Oh yeah...FMIL said that she knew a couple who got married at our RH and they got divorced so the place is bad luck. Is there ANY RH out there that no couple who has been married there seperated? People are crazy!

one of my friends -- when we first booked she was like 'you have so many friends that are teachers why are getting married on a Friday in September, that is the worst month for teachers!'
I knew it was a rough month since I worked as a speech teacher for BOCES. but we wanted a September wedding and if our guests really wanted to be there for us they'd find a way to share our day with us
sometimes I wonder about people
I had the same problem! I have a lot of friends/family who are teachers too or work in schools. I do not work in/for schools. I do not understand why they think everything should revolve around the school calendar! (NO offense anyone! )
I originally had booked this past Friday (May 25th) and all I heard was how it would be tough if they didn't have any left over snow days and had to work the full day on Friday.

YES!!!!!!MY OWN FATHER He fishes in tourtaments for Chevorlle and Toyota. You have to out money into it and blah blah blah When we told him the date he FREAKED OUT!!! (Hint: my parents are divorced and I never lived with him, we are not close) He wanted us to change it we already booked the Church. So now he is bringing his fishing clothes with him to the wedding so he can change after the reception and sleep on the boat to make sure that he is there on time in the morning.

Re: Have any of your guests said your wedding date is not convenient for them??
Only my FH friend from Seattle had a complaint, he was upset that we scheduled our wedding during a school year and he would have to take time off to be there...Geeze, He seems to forget that last year my FH and everybody else in his family had to take time off last June to go to his wedding in Seattle!!! And the kicker is that he has not friends or family from Seattle and everyone that went to his wedding had to fly in from NY or FL!!!! WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!

Our original date was September 22nd and then my brother-in-law, who is Jewish, told us it was Yom Kippur. He didn't ask us to change the date, but said he was sorry he wouldn't be able to make it.
Having him there was important to us so we changed the date to Oct. 13th.
As a bride I would expect some conflicts with a labor day weekend wedding, but as a guest I would NEVER request the date be changed.

YES!
It's the day after FH's nephew's bday... FH didn't tell me and I had no idea. Oh well.
So yes, apparently our RD is getting the way of his nephew's 3rd birthday celebration.

I haven't really heard any complaints other than the whole 'oh it's August and it's gonna be so hot' or 'it's vacation time for everyone and that's the week before Labor Day.' As a guest though, I would never ask someone to change the date of their wedding--it's rude and presumptuous of people.

I felt that way about my friend's memorial day wedding at first- but it was fine and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. And now I am thinking of doing mine Columbus Day weekend- mostly because a lot of our family is coming in from Florida and its easier for them to come in for a couple of days rather than a weekend....

Yes They keep on saying it is too close to July 4 and they always go on vacation that weekend. Duhhh. Can't my wedding be part of the vacation but I figure the ones who care and love me will be there. Even if they do have to travel all the way from Michigan. Think its rude when people say that. Wish they would just send back the card saying No

It was not really about the date but more what is happening that day. The Jets are playing the Giants and my uncle made a comment. 'Great day you picked!' I almost started crying. All I kept thinking was people were going to be trying to find a tv during my wedding to watch the game.

Besides having a great wedding date (my bday) screw them! I think they can get the darn kid ready for school the day before! Anythng to complain! My FMIL asked if at our wedding we can sing happy birthday to her niece who will be turning 40 that day I said ABSOLUTELY NOT!
LOL.. in the middle of our reception my FIL grabbed the mike and did a big speach about his MIL.... turns out it was my (ex's now) grammas b'day. We had NO idea and nobody told us when we picked the date. They sang the birthday song to her.. Not once but twice.. once in english and once in Hawaiian. LOL.
I was like..um..Ok.

Boy oh boy can I relate to this. FH comes from a very large family and in the past 5 years I don't think there has been one function that anyone tried to plan that at leats half of the family didn't complain about. It's come to the point where people have started claiming dates for bday, parties and what not. We already received STD's for 2 kiddie parties for September When we tried to pick a date we heard so much crap from FIL, FSIL and FBIL so we chagned the date 3 times, not once but 3 times. I finally got pissed and told FH that August 4th was the date and who ever could come great, if not oh well.
