Stolen from newlyweds....

Before getting engaged, did you and FH ever break up at any point while you were dating?

FH and I broke up in June 2007. He was still living with his whole family on Long Island, I was living in Brooklyn, and I was tired of making the trip and keeping the 'overnight bag' in my trunk. I started buying 2 of everything so that I could always have all of it at his house and my apartment. Eventually, I just got this feeling that 'it wasn't going anywhere' and I did what I really thought was best - I broke up with him and figured that if it was meant to be, we'd be together again. We were BOTH devastated. It was so hard being without him. After three weeks or so, I finally decided it was time to start getting out and having fun again so I went to the city with my girls. A guy asked for my number and I hesitantly gave it to him and decided, what the heck... why not see what's out there? In the midst of all of this, I was contemplating relocating to Philadelphia for work. While I was on my first date with that guy, FH called me (for the first time in 3 weeks!). I actually went to the bathroom (the new guy and I were at a bar) and took his call! Afterwards, I was so bent out of shape that I cut the date short and went home. That night, I told FH that I was going to relocate to Philly with work. That week, he started sending out resumes to firms in the Philly area. Three months later we were living in Philly. Four months after that, he proposed. I couldn't imagine life without him ever again!

Yes. I thought it was so over, I was adamant, he was adamant, that was it. Within hours I was at my friends' house crying my eyes out, and they bet me $500 that he would call within an hour. I was SO sure that would NOT happen. We talked and drank wine for hours, and realized later he'd called nine times . . . . it had been about 10 hours since the breakup. He even 'moved out.' My friends didn't hold me to the bet, and we've been better ever since. Long story, but when you get super-serious immediately, things happen . . . . it actually made us realize just how different this relationship was from any other, we couldn't imagine being apart, and those 10 hours were the worst 10 hours of both our lives.

We have twice.. Both his fault of course.
He used to just walk away when things got tough. But he doesnt do that anymore. He realizes its not the right thing to do.
We didnt break up for very long.. the 1st time was like 2 days and the second time was like a week.
It was more of a break then a break up.
He was going through a lot then and hes a completly different person now.

ETA: Dont pay attention to my spelling. its late and I forgot to check it.

Nope - we've never even threatened it. I honestly believe we both know we were made for each other - plus we were older when we met so we had a lot of stuff out of our system

a few times, most recently 13 weeks ago and we just got back together...its never really a 'break up' except in like 2005 we broke up for a week...he cant stay away for that long!

no....7.5 years and ticking . we had a little rough patch for like a month but that was fixed with a lengthy convo. we seem to be better friends everyday

yes we broke up from Feb 07 and got back together Jul 07....our seperation made our relationshp better

i guess that's true of separations sometimes... a lot of people think, once you have them, the whole thing is shot. for some couples, it just makes them stronger!

I broke up with my FH last April. We dated for 6yrs and lived together for a yr and I felt like the relationship wasnt going anywhere...so i moved out of our beautiful apartment to a tiny basement apartment all alone! We ended up getting back together in September and got engaged in February. Breaking up with him was the best thing I could have done! Made us stronger :)

yea we broke up after dating for 2 years (we started when we were 17) we did our own thing and said if its meant to be it will be and a year after being broken up we started calling each other again and got back together...i def think it was the best thing that couldve happen to us

All the time. Its an everyday occurance. Everytime he annoys me I tell him I'm breaking up with him. I used to pack up all my stuff and go sit on the bed...and then he comes over and says alright lets unpack your things. I'm like the little kid who says shes running away from home.

We never broke up and it's been almost 7 years!! It's crazy telling people sometimes they think I'm nuts. RIght before FH asked me to marry him my parents asked me if I every wanted to date around since we met when we were 17 and neither of us had serious relaitonships with anyone else....I said NOPE and that was that hah. We will have been dating 8 years when we get married...nuts!!
