Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has been to a destinattion wedding? If so, where and would your recommend it? How many invited people actually attended? I would really like to do this, so any input is greatly appreciated. TIA!

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

I went to one 2 years ago in Dominican Republic....she had 130 guests and spent about $20,000.00.....everything was BEAUTIFUL...but there was a problem with the DJ (he didn't know what to play and when to play it) and she hated her photographer....my advice:

ask for references and check them out!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

I haven't been to one but me & FH thought about having one myself in Hawaii a few years ago.

I highly recommend doing a destination wedding...less hassles, I imagine. If I could do it over, I'd have stuck to my original plan.

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

Does Vegas count? We went to a wedding 3 months ago at Caesar's Palace for about 100 people. It was cool because it was Vegas and the wedding was beautiful, but Vegas is nutty. Everyone had a blast.

I think you just have to prepare yourself for less people to show up , which is not necessarily a bad thing!

I know the bride and groom were not super happy with their DJ and Photographer because it was all part of the 'package' so just be sure you like your vendors.

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

my girlfriend got married a few years ago in Las Vegas at Treasure Island on the Pirate Ship. As corny as it may sound, it was a blast and the ceremony was beautiful.

Her reception was at a French Restaurant off the strip, it was intimate and alot of fun. They even had an Elvis impersonator come in towards the end of dinner. It was one of the best weddings I've been to (beside my own of course!)

She had her closest friends and immediate family, so I'd say there were about 30 people there.

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

I went to one in Cabo San Lucas and it was by far the most gorgeous wedding I've ever been to! She didn't do it to save money though - it cost just as much as a NY wedding would have cost. They rented an amazing villa and had the reception there. Her family and the groom's family all stayed in the villa for the days leading up to the wedding and a few days after. It was gorgeous!

Re: Have you ever been to a destination wedding?

we went to one in las vegas in january. it was great!
it was beautiful- at the venetian, which is a gorgeous hotel! the only thing i thought was weird was that the ceremony took place on a bridge that goes over the canal that runs through the hotel... so it wasn't private at all... i think that would have bothered me... but like i said, it was beautiful!
there were about 50 people there- the reception was at a great restaurant at the venetian- just dinner, no DJ or dancing or anything... the bride and groom took a gondola ride after the ceremony, which was really cute, too....
basically, it was a great excuse to take a couple days off work and party for a weekend
