A friend of mine who was a bridesmaid in many weddings cautioned not to worry about picking a dress that will be rewearable, and to focus more on it being affordable.
She said my bridesmaids will happily wear whatever I want because it will make me happy, but it would be the exception to the rule if they ever found an occasion to wear the dress again (unless I picked a little black dress).
Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress? Alter a long gown to tea length, wear to a black tie event, halloween (ha!)?
When choosing your bridesmaid dresses, was re-wearability a consideration? To what extent?

Some may wear them. Personally I haven't . There is a website you can donate your bridesmaid dresses to afterward. So sorry I dont remember the name- one dontation goes to teen girls (for prom).

Re: Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress?
I have 5 BM dresses in my closet and have never re-worn one of them. And one of them is a tea length cute dress that the bride picked because she figured we could wear it again, but you know what, it still looks like a BM dress. Most of them do. If you manage to find one that truly does not look like a BM dress than great, but I wouldn't make that your primary goal. Just pick a dress that you love, and, that your BMs feel comfortable in.

Re: Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress?
Im letting my BM's choose their own dresses as long as it is the correct color & fabric. So it will be up to them if they pick something that they can wear again so they cant blame me for ugly BM's dresses.
P.S. I dont know why some brides pick ugly dresses. If I were a BM & the bride picked an ugly dress I wouldnt wear it. I dont think the BM can ever upstage the bride, so why have them looking bad??

Re: Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress?
when we picked out the dress for my girlfriend's wedding.. i wasn't even thinking of how i could reware it. It had a lot of bead work and it def. looked like a BM dress so i figured i'd probably never wear it again..but it didn't even matter. I was just sooo happy for her and so happy to be a part of her special day that i didn't care. But i actually did alter my sweet sixteen dress so i could wear it again. I had them cut it short and they took it in cause i was heavier at 16.. after it was like a whole new dress and it didn't even cost much. I was happy i did it cause a few weeks later i needed a dress to wear for a function and i didnt have to go buy one cause it wound up being perfect..so i guess it depends on the dress..

Re: Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress?
Out of the 5 weddings that I have been in I have re-worn 3 of the dresses to other functions.
The most recent one (my MOH dress from my sisters wedding) I would wear again, I just have not had the chance to wear it.
Only one dress I have there is no way could I re-wear it because it was altered incorrectly from the start and I am not crazy about the color.

Nope...and I probably never will...all my BM dresses have been god awful....which is primarily why I chose this BM dress...so my gals can wear it again...and actually, some ordered 2 so they could wear it for holiday parties and then wear the other for my wedding....
I have reworn one dress but to be fair it was a black off the rack Laundry Dress. It was my friend's BM dress from a wedding. She wore it in one wedding and 3 or 4 other places. My other friend wore it as a BM dress and to my sister's wedding and then I wore it to 5 weddings (all different groups of people) and a black tie work event. It was the best $300 my friend ever spent!
As for my true blue BM dresses NO i have never reworn them.

Re: Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress?
Of all the weddings I've been in, I've worn one a few times. It's a very simple dark blue dress. It wasn't a BM dress, more like one found in the dress section of a department store. It's really pretty. My other ones I donated to Operation Fairy Dust.

i agree, worry more about it being affordable for them, if they wear it again thats great if not dont worry theres no hard feelings they know its likely they wont wear it again.
Hey fancy dresses come in handy so its good for them to have. I have a couple of long gowns just in case and it has come in handy a couple of times.
