Having an issue...

My FI and I picked out our toasting flutes for our wedding day and put them on our registry..I absolutely am so attached to them..they are by Waterford and have Swans on them...I picked them because we are getting married at the Swan Club. There is also a frame that matches the flutes. Cheesy..but this is what I want.

Well my FI informed me that his parents have hinted that his Aunt and Uncle bought us toasting flutes that have some Irish significance (my FI are both Irish) as a gift for our E=Party

What do I do??? I don't want to upset his Aunt and Uncle but I have my heart set on the Swan ones....

I know this seems dumb and there are so many things that I could worry about besides this but this is something that is on my mind

That's a tough one. Maybe you can suggest that you will use the flutes they gave you on your first anniversary???

This way you can use the Waterford ones on your wedding day -- and still be able to use the ones they gave you later on??

This may or may not work, but maybe you can have 2 toasts with two sets of flutes. One from the BM and one from the MOH. Or is there a different toats that I don't know about?

That sounds like a touchy situation. I think I would still get the glasses I want. I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings but if you have your heart set on the swan glasses I would have to get them. By the way, I LOVE swans. Where did you see these glasses? Do you have a pic by chance?

Yes I do....from Fortunoff but they are everywhere because they arre by Waterford

Maybe you could use one pair and have the other pair on display.. like with the cake or something?

Then which do we use and then which to display???

I mean this should be my biggest problem I know BUT his Aunt and Uncle are like the nicest people and I am sure these flutes that they are getting us were not cheap...I just feel bad as always

You could always 'forget' and leave them home. That is what a friend of mine did when her sister in law made a money bag for her and she didn't like it. It is a lil dishonest but it may help you save face.

Not too make you feel worse. But I LOVE those flutes. I love swans and that is somewhat my theme too. Everything will work out. Don't stress too much.

I know they are beautiful....thats just my humble opinion and I love that there is the matching Frame and Cake server too...we might forgo the cake server because the set is so expensinve but I love when things match

No problem 158 maybe...they might be more go on fortunoff's website under waterford toasting flutes the frame should pop up too

I have a similar problem- My Aunt bought us these beautiful Vera Wang toasting glasses and then a week later my brother and his wife gave us Tiffany toasting glasses but I really like the ones from my Aunt and Uncle better so I told my SIL that I received the other ones first and felt like I had to use them but I was keeping hers as well and would use them on our first anniversary. This way it didn't seem like I liked ours better. You could always tell a little white lie that you received the swan ones first.

This might sound silly but if it were me I would toast using one from each set....isnt a wedding about a union of two different people anyway? you could say it had significance like your love for swans and his irish heritage coming together as one and then all parties are satisfied

i got a cake server from someone that i didn't want.

On our engagement night, FMIL bought us the kate spage twisting knot ones...and now i want everything associated with that.

So we returned the other ones and that couple (who are good friends) won't know till the wedding.

Hoping by that point they'll forget or something.

If I were you, I would do the ones you want. And save the other ones for your first anniversary or something.

You can use those toasting glasses whenever. I doubt they'll say something at the wedding!

you could point out to them that WATERFORD is IRISH crystal- that has a lot of Irish significance- and that the flute you have chosen represent Irish culture AND the theme (Swans) of your wedding. I am sure Aunt & Uncle- in-law have a receipt for them IF you spin it the right way!!!
