Having Children at your wedding

Original post by prettyprincess07

I was talking with my gf's about having children at weddings and one friend thinks since it is a family affair children should be welcome. The other thinks kids should stay home and let the adults have the night out. What do you ladies think? Is anyone having kids at their wedding? Or will they be having a strictly adult wedding?

Re: Having Children at your wedding

We had kids-it broke the cardinal rules about a late evening wedding in my eyes but I couldn't see not having them. I wanted them there. They had a blast!

They were not really small though. All but one about the age of 6. They acted like perfect little gentleman. I just realized that I had no little girls there.

My ring bearer was 3 but he came with my BIL from Seattle and both kids were in the bridal party.

I just want to say-that it is your choice. I don't regret doing what we did, but it would depend on the situation if I ever did it that way again.

We don't have a lot of kids in either one of our families so we are having them. We have 6 altogether. One is in the wedding.

i've discovered that this is just about the most touchy subect when it comes to weddings. as my wedding is about 10 months away and i've had 3 huge fights about having kids at the wedding--with family members.

FH and i would like to have a nice, adults only wedding. unfortunately, we both have several siblings that already have kids; and most of the kids are under the age of 10. my brother is a egomaniacal jerk who thinks he is ENTITLED to bring his 4 yr. and 1 1/2 yr. old kids to the wedding. he doesn't understand that it's an adult party at a very elegant catering hall and that it's not like it's just a few hours---this is something that lasts ALLLLL day and kids get restless. he informed me that we would 'have a problem' if i didn't let him bring his kids. the issue is this--if i let HIM , i have to let EVERYBODY--and between FH and i---the kid count for immediately relatives would be about 17-20 children (most in the 2-9 yrs. of age range). 2 or 3 kids together is one thing--but get 20 kids together--who are all bored by the wedding festivities---you have a fiasco on your hands. at least that's my opinion.

to those who are allowing children at your wedding--more power to you--but i hate when family & friends think that you MUST invite their rugrats. HELLLOOOO!!! i am inviting you to share in our day--where the hell do you get off telling me that HAVE to invite your kids?!

lol--actually i get along with him just fine (it's his whore GF i hate, but that's another story)---we hang out often--it's just when the subject of kids at the wedding comes up that we fight. he pretty much told me on sunday that i MUST do what he says, because HIS kids are important. i said no one else will be allowed to bring kids...his response: 'i don't give a sh*t about anyone else's kids..MINE should be allowed.' (i have 5 other siblings besides him---FH has 8 siblings)

that's why i say this is a touchy subject--my bro and i are cool--except for THIS ONE TOPIC!!

We're inviting children, it was our decision as we want them to celebrate with us. No pressure from anyone. We're prob having about 10 kids ranging from 1.5 to 12, one of them is FH's daughter and my neice who are in the BP. But I can certainly understand couples who don't want kids at their wedding, it's all personal preference.

It was not that long ago that I was considered a 'child' and not invited to family weddings. I am very bitter about this to this day! We are definitely inviting children to the wedding. We have some cousins who are younger and are of course going to include them, they are afterall cousins just the same as my 30year old cousins.

We invited children, but it was only DH's neice and nephew, and three children of close family friends. The youngest was 7, and we knew they would all be well behaved. It worked out well, b/c we didn't know anyone with toddlers.

whore GF!

I get it. I guess if it were my bros kids I would let them. I would tell everyone else that they are your nephews/nieces and that's that. That's just my opinion and I am in no-way siding with him.

BTW-me and my brother are like fire and water.

We had alot of kids at our wedding, and it was a mistake. Apart from the 5 flower girls and 2 ring bearers, we had over 10 children, and they were on the dance floor all night, even when dinner was being served. Their parents could not control them.

I dont want kids at my wedding, but unfortunately I am having 8 of them. I think that if it's possible not to have children at a wedding then dont.

Re: Having Children at your wedding

AHHHHH My fav question :)

WELL, in the beginning we were like NO KIDS except for hose in the bridal party...then we were wondering if we should invite just first cousins-i have one, who is 13, and he has 3 cousins, ages: 5, 7 and 13...
So we were wondering if we should invte them or not. So we told his parents and his mother was like..well waht about the twins (his second cousins)...Um...NO!!!!!
She wants to invite them, but Im puttin my foot down...
IMO i dont think weddings are places for kids...
