Having Children at your wedding

Original post by prettyprincess07

I was talking with my gf's about having children at weddings and one friend thinks since it is a family affair children should be welcome. The other thinks kids should stay home and let the adults have the night out. What do you ladies think? Is anyone having kids at their wedding? Or will they be having a strictly adult wedding?

Re: Having Children at your wedding

We are not having children. It was a choice we made even before we booked our hall. I had one of my bride's maid's drop out and she will also not be attending the wedding because she will not be able to bring her daughter and unborn child. The decision is yours as to wether you want children or not. You should not let anyone sway your decision. If they have an issue with it then it's their choice not to come to the wedding. It'll be their loss. You should enjoy your day without children running around. I say this because as FH and I watch our engagement video we had children running around the dance floor (and their dumb parents chaising after them). Not something I want in my wedding video.

Sorry this is so long. I obviously have a very strong opinion on it! Good luck to you and whatever you and you fh decide make sure it's YOUR decision!!!!

All of the kids on both sides of the family were 3 and under and I put my foot down about having them there. IMO, a wedding is not the place for small children to be running around. And with little kids, you can't predict when they'll act up - I wouldn't take a chance on having that happen during my ceremony.
Thankfully, my entire family agreed with us. Only MIL gave us a problem about it - repeatedly. But she finally relented when she saw that DH and I wouldn't budge.

We had 5 children between the ages of 12 and14. We had one child under 3 and he was the RB. The adolescents there are always properly dressed and well behaved. The 2 1/2 year old, my nephew, just camped out in the port-a-crib that was strategically placed behind tables. This is my brother's child and I wasnt going to send him home. Nobody knew he was there. The other children 2 - 5 year olds, 1 - three year old and 1 - 18 month old all went home with their grandparents who stayed for the ceremony and CH.

We're having a lot of kids at the wedding (we have 9 in the Bridal Party!!!). So what we're doing is having two babysitters and they are in charge of the kids. They'll probably be eating in the Bridal Suite but they'll be allowed in the reception whenever they want. But it totally depends on what YOU want. Kids change the atmosphere of the wedding, it's the kind of atmosphere that I want...but it's most important what YOU want!!! Good Luck!!

We had alot of kids at our wedding, and it was a mistake. Apart from the 5 flower girls and 2 ring bearers, we had over 10 children, and they were on the dance floor all night, even when dinner was being served. Their parents could not control them.

horror stories like this is exactly what solidifies FH and mine's decision. lol sorry this happened to you! i fear the same thing at ours. at first FH was on the fence about the kid thing--and kind of was like 'What's the big deal?' so i said to my FH, 'I don't want some kid thinking it's funny to jump in front of the videographer and make funny faces during key points of the night, cause when you're 7, you think it's hilarious and don't realize you could be ruining a person's wedding video' and it was like a lightbulb went off!! he realized 'OMG--i WAS that kid that did that....hell no...we shouldn't have kids there!' Re: Having Children at your wedding

I am having 10 kids 10 years old and under - 8 are in the bridal party

and 2 kids that are 12 and 13.

The kids that I allowed were the siblings of the bridal party. Unfortunately if I allowed all kids I would have at least 30!

Now all my kids are well behaved kids that I have known all of their lives....most of them are 5 going 16!!!!!!!!!!

I am not inviting any children. With regard to FGs, I asked their parents if they wanted them to attend.

My fiance & I are only allowing nephews, neices & God children.... and that only totals about 6 kids. Kids of cousins & friends arent allowed. I did make an exception for 1 of my friends though. Her cousin is getting married the same day I am & she is coming to my wedding. So she just cant leave her 2 yrs old with relatives at her cousin's wedding. If anyone 'dares' say anything, she is unofficially my neice.
