We are trying to keep costs down on our Hawaii trip. Originally, we were going to just spend and forget about worrying but the more I think about it-- I think we could still go all out and not kill ourselves financially in the process.
So, if you had to choose-- which Island would you OMIT??? I mean, what do you think is the Island that I could remove but it would still be OK and I won't end up regretting it big time... Also, if any of you have been to or heard about Hawaii-- which Island do you think is the best? A must see?
I voted the big island, because it is completely commercialized, the other islands are more 'Hawaiian'

Re: Hawaii Dilemma (WITH POLL!!)
From what I have researched, Oahu is so built up now that it is like Miami. So I would admit that but maybe take a day trip over to see pearl harbor.

Re: Hawaii Dilemma (WITH POLL!!)
I have been to Maui and Oahu (I think thats the one--wherever Pearl Harbor is). IMO- Maui is a must...gorgeous and some cool things to do like biking down a volacano (so cool) and the Road to Hana! Oahu--not so much. Its a city on the beach...kinda like miami. Very commercialized...not many huge resorts in the main area. Unless you have your heart set on seeing Pearl Harbor, I would skip it. Not very romantic.
When I went to Hawaii, I was with my family and only 20 so I didn't get to see much night-life so I can't comment on that. I had to come home after the first 2 Islands to go back to school for an exam (damn organic chemistry.... ) My parents and my sister went on to Kuai and they said I missed the best of the best. They couldn't stop talking about how gorgeous it was, they went kayaking and on a helicopter ride. I'm so angry I missed out on that-- especially since I decided against Med School and that organic chem test doesn't really matter anymore..lol.
Please make sure you go to Kuai...don't make the mistake I did!

I had the same Dilemma. And i chose to Omit The Big Island. The other islands have sooo much more activities/ places to see , and the only reason why I would want to go to the Big Island would be for the volcanoes - but I could always make a day trip out of that!!

ok, before i vote - what is your ideal HM?
Laying on the beach? Hiking? Sightseeing?
That will decide which one i omit
OK Nic, good question!
Well, Vinny and I are funny... we love the beautiful beach setting and we like to lay on the beach but not for extended periods of time. We like to lay, swim a lot, maybe snorkel and then some either regular or water activity to break up the day would be great. I also like fun stuff like sightseeing (horseback riding etc) and then even a little shopping here and there. One thing that is also really important is having SOMETHING to do at night-- we LOVE to dance so if we could find a place that has some night hot spots at night YET still has nice, fun things during the day that would be IDEAL for us!!
Hope that helps give you an idea
But to be honest, I can't spend 12 hours on a beach just laying-- I would die-- I need 'variety'-- nothing crazy like climbing mount everest-- just fun

The big island - I haven't heard much about it so it can't be that great . I hear that maui and kuai are just beautiful and Oahu has pearl harbor.
We are doing
3 night Oahu 3 nights Kaui 6 nights Maui
HTH - Good Luck!

Re: Hawaii Dilemma (WITH POLL!!)
What if I didn't want to go to Pearl Harbor?
OK, let me rephrase, Pearl Harbor is such a sore spot for me I think it would ruin the entire day for me to go there. It's VERY upsetting and I have heard stories from my Grandfather about going there that I can't post about but let me tell you, it made me REALLY not want to go there.
So, I guess my ? is, is Pearl Harbor the only thing to see on Oahu that's worth it-- if I change my mind, maybe I could visit Pearl for just a day trip (meaning omit Oahu and then go there for the day to see Pearl if I think I can do it).
hmmmmmm.... ladies?

Maui is a must like previously mentioned!
Oahu had pearl harbor, gorgoues resturant, and umm hello shopping!! Chanel, gucci, prada, dior EVERYTHING kind of like a 5thave except in Hawaii not NY.
The big Island- never been there dont really have a desire to go very commericialized island.

If I were you I would skip Kauai. I LOVED Oahu. It had it all!! Beach, snorkeling, shopping, restaurants. I found Kauai itself boring, but we stayed at an amazing five-star resort, so that made the trip.

No honolulu is in Oahu. It is the most modern of all islands and nice and clean i highly recommend not omitting Oahu its really amazing especially if you love laying on the beach, shopping, oh and you can swim with the dolphins at their aquarium! Very fun

Re: Hawaii Dilemma (WITH POLL!!)
When we were deciding the travel agent told us to omit staying at the Big Island b/c you can always go there for the day without having to stay there. FH realize that our honeymoon is gonna be $$$ but we wanted to stay at as many islands so were doing Oahu, Kauai, and Maui.

which resort?
i literally spend hours looking on tripadvisor and going back and fourth with hotels-- i'm so afraid i'm going to make a bad decision or i'm going to wish i went with another hotel

hmm, very interesting-- so a lot more than just PH? that's good to know. do you think a day trip would do it or would we need more?
i heard oahu, believe it or not, has the nicest beach-- waikiki beach.
