Hawaii Honeymoon

Oh nice, where are you staying? In Oahu we are doing Pearl Harbor and hiking up diamond head. We may even drive around to the North side of the island to see Turtle Bay because my FH is obsessed with it because of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

In Maui we are going to do a luau, not sure where yet, and the road to Hana and the Haleakala Sunrise. I've done both before and definitely recommend both.

Hawaii Honeymoon

We decided not to go, we are saving for a house and thought it would be silly to spend so much on a honeymoon when we are planning on buying a house a few months after the wedding.

But it was for The Big Island, Oahu, and Maui

We are doing Pearl Harbor, renting a car and FH want's to do a tour of the volcanos.
Maui we are doing the luau, sunset cruise and probably renting a car.
We are doing the bike ride on the Haleakala Sunrise. I hope it's not as scary as some reviews.
I will do more research about road to Hana.
Thanks for the suggestions.

In Oahu we are staying at Outrigger and Hyatt in Maui.
What hotels are you staying at?
Any suggestions would be welcomed. So much to do and I don't want to miss anything.

We are renting a car in both islands, but a convertible in Maui. If you do the road to Hana in Maui you should have a convertible. I did the bike ride down the mountain. It wasn't scary (for me at least). You are gliding down the whole time and there are winding curves but nothing drastic where you feel you might fall off. Since you are gliding the whole time just don't put any extra speed into it otherwise that might make a turn difficult to handle. When we got down the mountain and in to town there is a wonderful bakery where we stopped for breakfast. It really is the perfect day. I'm at the Outrigger on the Beach in Oahu and Fairmont in Maui.

Hawaii Honeymoon

I suggest booking as soon as you have confirmed what you want to do and find reasonable rates, probably around 8 months out. I started looking a month or two ago and the prices have gone up drastically, just flights alone. I'm going in September and looked all the way to November before prices started to drop. I guess they start going up about 6 months out, dumb mistake on my part.

Anyway, it totally depends on what you want to do. I'm going to Oahu for 3 nights then Maui for 6 nights. Most honeymooners go to Kauai because it's very quiet and romantic, but that's too quiet for us. :) I've been before and Maui was my favorite which is why we are doing the longer time there. We are only staying in Oahu because we have to fly into Oahu anyway and I think my FH would like to see Waikiki for a couple of days. The price is $7k, flight is about $1600 and the land package is about $5300 plus insurance is $400. We are staying at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and renting a car there and staying at the Fairmont in Maui and renting a convertible there, too. I've checked into so many options between a cruise, different islands, different hotels, let me know if you have any questions I feel like I'm an expert now.

Hope that helped!

BrideToBe, Do you have a reservation for a car already? We just want to rent a car for 1 day on each island, not sure if we should reserve before hand or once we get there. What do you suggest?

EAY213, no private pool or jacuzzi, just visiting the spa.

Hawaii Honeymoon

EAY - my room has a spa tub (jacuzzi tub in the room). I didn't really see anything with plunge pools for any of the places I was looking at.

Sandr - I reserved with Dollar rental and the AAA rate, it was the cheapest overall. I know my hotels had car rental services as well.

Hawaii Honeymoon

We just back from Hawaii - 10 nights nd it was kind of pricey I definitely think we would've spent over 10K if we did not have a timeshare and I did not cash in airline miles for our plane tickets.

Not sure if its useful but here is an breakdown of our trip:

Airfare: Round trip coach are approx: $2200
Hawaiian Airlines Upgrade Fee: $1300
Hotel: 7 Nights Kauai Marriott Beach Club Ocean Front 1 Bedroom Suite $400/night - $2800
Hotel: 3 Nights Oahu - Trump International $1100
Car rental: 7 days Kauai: $440
3 Excursions on Kauai- $1000
(Napali Cost Dinner Cruise: $300)
(ATV Tour: $250)
(Luau - $250)
Dinners: Relevant to your travel style but I'd say most nicer restaurants are similar to NYC price wise

You can def do it for cheaper if you choose a modest hotel and eliminate some excursions, shopping and dining out. But Hawaii in general is known to be kind of pricey.

Hope that helps. If anyone goes to Kauai you HAVE to do the Southern Star Catarmaran Napali Coast Dinner Cruise....AMAZING!!! Worth every single penny!
