Hawaii Honeymoon ..............Need Advice

I am in the process of booking my December honeymoon to Hawaii. I wanted some input on what islands I should go to. My FH and I are looking to stay 9 nights/10 days. Our plan was to stay the entire time in Maui. I've heard great things about Kauai as well but I've heard that Maui and Kauai are similar. My parents suggested I spend about 7 days in Maui and the remaining 3 days in Honolulu. They think it would be great to see something different and that 10 days in Maui might be too long. My question is has anyone ever been to Honolulu and if so did you like it? Is it worth going there for a few days or should I stay in Maui the 10 days? I know my FH and I want to definately be able to have different options to go out at night and not be totally secluded in a resort far away from things. Any suggestions for delux hotels in Maui and Honolulu that is close to some sort of night scene. I have looked into the Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin Maui so far. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!!!!

My Advice

We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon in October . We did 3 nights in Kauaiand stayed at the Hyatt and 8 nights in Maui staying at the Fairmount Kea Lani. We went to Kauai first because we just wanted to relax after the wedding -- it is beautiful -- the Hyatt it wonderful ! There is not much to do -- especially at night .. but to relax it is great ! As for Maui -- we could not have loved our Hotel The Faimount Kea Lani any more !! It is all suites-- and they are incredible! The resturaunt Nicks-- is one of the best -- we felt like King and Queen while we were there!! Maui had a lot to do -- we felt like we could have stayed longer -- Maui has more of a nightlife-- but still most places close at 11... we were exhausted by then anyway !! Good Luck !

How did you like Honolulu? Where hotels did you stay at in Honolulu and Maui? Also, how was the weather in February? I am going mid-December and I heard it gets pretty chilly at night. Thanks for your help.

We liked it, however our main purpose for going there was to see Pearl Harbor. We took a direct flight from Newark right into Honolulu, and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. They were so sweet and upgraded us to a suite when they saw we were honeymooners. In Maui, we stayed at the Embassy Suites, we had a HUGE ocean view suite with a wrap around terrace. It was beautiful without breaking our bank. Some may not think it luxurious enough but for us it was fine. In Kaui, we stayed at the Princeville Resort. Granted it was a beautiful property, but it was a bit stuffy (attitude wise)for my taste. Kaui is also has a rainforest climate and it rained 2 out of the 3 days. There is not much nitelife and things seem to close around 10. I don't recall it being overly chilly at night, but take a wrap or a sweater with you ENJOY

Elle- Fairmont Kea Lani

We are staying here for a week in June, then going to the Hyatt in Kauai. A travel agent recommended the Kea Lani to us, but since I don't know anyone personally who has stayed here, I am glad to hear that another bride loved it. I am so looking forward to it. You said the rooms were nice, how was the pool, beach, grounds? How was the Hyatt in Kauai. I hear that it is beautiful.

Hawaii Honeymoon ..............Need Advice

My FH and I are staying in Maui for two weeks at the Grand Wailea on Wailea beach (www.grandwailea.com). It is right next to the Four Seasons and was rated on of the top ten hotels in the world (can't wait to go!!). I chose the South shore as we honeymooning late October... this is when their 'winter' season begins which means the north shore will have the stronger swells and waves during this time and the south shore will be calmer. I'm not one for packing my things all over again and moving so that is why we are staying on one island. The lazy person in me screams Noooo!!! What we plan on doing is buying an island hopping pass for $150 which lets you hop around during the day from island to island as much as you want and then we can still go back to our hotel. Kaanapali Bay is a beautiful location as well but that is north shore and I wanted south. try also www.gomaui.com for more ideas. PS - Maui also has the least rainfall out of all the island yet is supposed to be completey romantic. I have heard that places like Lanai, although gorgeous have little spurts of rain throughout the day.

Thanks ....

everyone for all your great feedback. I think I am going to speak to a travel agent this weekend to get some more ideas about all the different islands. I guess I have to decide what is it that I really want to do and decide which islands I like better.

Hawaii Honeymoon ..............BIG ISLAND

We've been to the Big Island and loved it. If you like to sight see that is the place to go. You see all the waterfalls, volcanos, different sand beached. It's great, we spent 7 days there. We stayed at the Royal Kona resort

Maui and Kauaii

We just booked out Hawaiian Honeymoom. We must have had a zillion different scenarios. We are going for 11 nights (4 in Kauai--The Hyatt, and 7 in Maui at the Four Seasons.) We were trying to get in a third island, but it was going to be more hectic than relaxing. We originally wanted to also go to the big island, but all of the attractions are a 3 hour drive from the resort area. And since we would only stay there for 2 nights, we decided it would be too much for us. We know many couples who have done the same honeymoon and have loved it. I have heard that Maui is the most beautiful island. We had a hard time deciding betweent the Princeville and the Hyatt in Kuauii, but we heard the the north shore (where the Princeville is) gets more rain. But wherever you decide to go will be great. I have never heard bad things about any part of Hawaii. Good Luck

Hawaii info

Ive been to Hawaii a number of times...I hope this helps... Oahu...very touristy...lots of nightlife...and city things...zoo, shopping etc...pearl harbor. I don't really recommend it for a honeymoon...there are one day trips to get from one island to oahu for the day to see Pearl Harbor...If you leave the Honolulu/Waikiki area you are not really welcomed...be careful about the Outrigger Hotels...with the exception of the Outrigger on the Beach they are so-so...and a hang out for the prostitute population of Waikiki...If you do go...Royal Hawaiian, Outrigger on the Beach, Sheraton, Halelulani (??)and Hawaiian Village are places I would suggest... Maui...there is so much to do...there are 2 dormant volcanoes that you can explore...one you can bike down. Lahaina is a cute town...kind of like a New England town. theres whale watching and lots of water activities... Big Island...is the 'youngest' of the islands...so it still has an active volcano...which is worth it... Kauai...good for relaxing I agree about the picking up and packing though...the day passes are great...and there are tours for every island... wwwhawaiiguide.com I think this is the one I used once... good luck

re: annie02

The Kea Lani is so incredible! There are two pools -- an adult pool and a regular pool with a swim up bar and waterslide. The beach is beautiful and the water is very calm so you can swim --unlike Kauai-- where the water was rougher. The Kea Lani is like a world in its own -- we never wanted to leave !! When you check in -- they serve you fresh Mango juice!! The Hyatt in Kauai is also beautiful -- a little more tropical . The pool is so nice -- and the grounds are beautiful -- you will have the best time !! If you want my email -- Id be happy to tell ya more!!

re: Sirev

The Kea Lani is in Waliea. It is a very upscale area with most of the nicest hotels-- like The four Seasons, The Grand Waliea, and this great shopping center with all these really nice stores. There is also a walkway on the beach between all of the hotels so you can take walks or jog ! It is so nice !! Good Luck !

Elle...

I did some research on the hotel last night and it seems beautiful. Did you guys have the dlx ocean front suite? I was wondering if it's worth the extra money to get an ocean view room. Their prices are a little high but it seems worh it for such an upscale place. I am soooo confused about all the different parts of the island and which part to stay in. My friend stayed at the Four Seasons and loved it but they said they were pretty far from the main town of Lahaina and there was not much to do around there at night. Thanks for everything!!
