Hawaiian Honeymoon Help

Hawaiian Honeymoon Help

My FH and I are attempting to plan our honeymoon to Hawaii now. His mother is actually paying for the trip which is awesome, but I would also like to have some input into the planning. She is kind of taking over :(
Anyway, before she plans the whole thing, does anyone recommend an island we 'just must stay at' because it is so romantic and picturesque (as long as there is still stuff to do) or a hotel that isn't too crazy expensive, but still very nice and on the water? Also, how long is a good amount of time to go to Hawaii? I mean you lose a day going and coming back...is 10 nights enough? TIA!! <3

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help

We just planned our honeymoon to hawaii with a travel agent who has been to hawaii a million times. My boss also used to live in Hawaii. We are staying in Kauai and Maui, both in the Hyatt. Use tripadvisor to look at people's actual picture and reviews. Friends of mine have stayed here and said its amazing!!!!!! So much to do and so many awesome restaurants. Kauai is more old school hawaii very relaxing (with a few excursions) and Maui there is a lot to do. According to people i've talked to Oahu is very much like NYC very busy and a lot of stores/restaurants you would see in NY but if you are into that I would say do it up. We're also doing 5 and 5 because at some of the hotels its stay 4 nights get the 5th free (Hyatt), also includes breakfast!

maui is my favorite! if you go to maui make sure you do the Maui Downhill excursion. it is the best excursion on the island and somoething you will never forget for the rest of your life. FH and i went to hawaii for two weeks last year and someone recommended Maui Downhill to us before we went. it was amazing. this is going to sound weird, but anyone who has done this excursion will tell you you MUST do the 3am trip. leave hotel at 3am, return around 1. sounds crazy i know, but SOOOOO worth it to get to the top of the volcano for the sunrise! words cannot even describe!

I agree! My travel agent set us up at both islands and both Hyatts for 6 nights each. She also set up excursions. My friends went to both and loved them equally! I am also going to take a 1-day trip to Oahu just to see Pearl Harbor and Waikiki Beach but its only going to be for the day between islands.
Good Luck!!!

How about a cruise NCL has a cruise that goes to all the islands. It leaves from Honolulu

I heard the hyatt is really nice! No one seems to go to the big island. why is this? I've heard there are a lot of things to do there.

We were actually thinking about that, but I haven't always heard the greatest things about NCL, so we're unsure about that.

We have a bunch of friends in Hawaii and they say that Hawaiians go on vacation to the Big Island. They say its amazing and kind of a secret to tourists. If you have the time, I would check it out!

oh yea? I have heard there's a lot to do. We are thinking of just doing 2 islands though so we're not packing and unpacking the whole trip. we want time to just be alone and relaxing. If you were to choose 2 islands, which 2 do you think are a must?

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help

Hi girls - old married lady crashing!!!

I've vacationed in Hawaii twice in the last 3 years... both times we stayed for 6 nights, which seems very short (especially when you factor in the travel), but we packed out our days!

Our first trip was the Oahu - we hiked Diamondhead, went shark diving, went horsebacking riding a the Kualoa ranch (lots of movies/Lost filmed there), went to pipeline beach and visited Pearl harbor. It's definitely the most 'city-like' of the islands, but it was still such a beautiful place. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The second time we went to the Big Island - We stayed on the Kona side (the other side of the island is the Hilo side, where the Volcanos are). We swam with dolphins, took a Helicopter ride over the volcanos and waterfalls, hiked down to the Akaka falls, went on a snorkeling day trip. And we happened to be there when the earthquake hit Japan (March 2011) so we survived a tsunami warning as well! We stayed at the Hilton Waikaloa (since the other Hilton was so nice when we went).

From what I've heard, Maui and Kuaui are definitely your best bets for honeymoon relaxation and romance, but from my experience, we had a great time on both of the other islands as well. We planned our trips by ourselves, through Expedia and hunting around online, so it is possible to find some great adventures and plans to unwind from your wedding, no matter where you go in Hawaii!
