My FH and I are attempting to plan our honeymoon to Hawaii now. His mother is actually paying for the trip which is awesome, but I would also like to have some input into the planning. She is kind of taking over :( Anyway, before she plans the whole thing, does anyone recommend an island we 'just must stay at' because it is so romantic and picturesque (as long as there is still stuff to do) or a hotel that isn't too crazy expensive, but still very nice and on the water? Also, how long is a good amount of time to go to Hawaii? I mean you lose a day going and coming back...is 10 nights enough? TIA!! <3

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
My daughter got married last week and is now in Hawaii. They flew into Honolulu, stayed in Oahu for a few days. They did snorkeling, luau swimming with dolphins, Pearl Harbor and had breakfast at the new Disney Hotel. They booked their own cottage at Turtle Bay Resort. She said that it was amazing. The ocean was just outside their patio. They loved the beach and the quiet. They both needed to rest a few days after all the ecitement and flying. Now they are off on NCL's Hawaii Cruise. The NCL ship has an all American Crew. They are visiting five different ports. We had heard great reveiws from our travel agent about this cruise. So far the honeymooners are very happy with their choices.
My daughter has done alot of cruising on different cruise lines (NCL, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity). As of yesterday, she loved the ship, cabin and entertainment. I will keep you posted.

Oh wow!! Sounds awesome so far. I want to stay at the Turtle Bay resort!!! I heard good and bad about it though. Some say it needs updating so I wasn't sure what to do. But you said she didn't seem to have any complaints. Also, do you have any updates about the cruise? Thank you!!!

I want to go to the Big Island but there isn't enough time. I really really really want to see lava!!!
Us too!! We are definitely staying 3nights/4 days at Turtle Bay on Oahu and 5 nights/6 days on Maui. We are thinking of doing a day trip from Maui to the Big Island because I sooo want to see active volcanoes! Anyone who has been there- is this too much to do in that amount of time?
Is everyone so excited??! I have never been to Hawaii (or anywhere else tropical) and I just cannot wait.

I went to Oahu/Maui/Kauai in 2010, I typed up a really long list of things to do on all the islands and what we liked on each of them to share with the brides here. FM if you want the information. I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Went there with my family a few years ago, you absolutely should spend time on Kauai! It was the most picturesque and relaxing. It was also the least tourist-y!

When we went to Maui we spent 5 nights, and we didn't think it was enough - but I am a total 'go doer' and must do/see everything! So it depends on what you have planned exactly. Do you know what you have planned? Feel free to FM for suggestions or if you want to talk about what you have planned so far.

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
For Maui we haven't really started planning activities yet other than probably trying to take a day trip to the big island for volcanoes. The condo we are looking at to stay in is in Kahana (Napili-Honokowai) if you know anything about this area or have any advice for staying here. Since we are spending alot on the resort on Oahu already we figured we'd go for a less expensive condo on Maui and since VRBO has so many that are like on top of the water we don't feel like we're really losing out by doing that. Maui we were probably going to do more relaxing, beaching, hiking, etc. But are very open to any suggestions to make the most of our 4 1/2 days there! Thanks (:

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
I stayed pretty close to where you were staying - the area was nice, the beaches over there were very good for snorkeling :). Nice and calm waters.
Take one day to do the Road to Hana. You can get a Hawaii book which will talk more in detail about all the stop (this is a great idea!) or find some ideas on google. There's some hikes off the Road the Hana which are pretty awesome. I would recommend spending a night in Hana though if you could. There's some really cool beaches near Hana, like the black sand beach.
Another day to go to Haleakala (if you could do sunrise that's even better.) If you like biking you can bike down.
Take a day trip to Lanai. I can provide lots of suggestions for what to see if you go here!
Or if you don't want to do the day trip, take a snorkel trip. There's one where you can see sea turtles, which was pretty cool.
Other than that, I'd try to spend the rest of the time relaxing since you'll only be there 4.5 days. I'm not sure where in relation to where you are, but the beach that we were at (in Kaanapoli) if you went a little north you could see sea turtles. It might be by the beach you're staying at.
Feel free if you want to FM for more details on anything though :)

Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
What excursions is everyone doing? We're going to Kauai and Maui.
