Re: Health Insurance
I pay less because currently it me but usually not always the employer pays 80 % if you are not employed that is about right.

Re: Health Insurance
But I am employed!! That price includes the percent that my boss pays!! I'm like hyperventilating!! We had ins thru DH's job but it runs out at the end of this month. (He's on Workmans Comp)
I'm thinking we may just get private insurance. Looks like we need to do some research!!

Re: Health Insurance
It's like that at my company, not quite as high, but close. Insurance rates are astromical and our company is only willing to pay a portion of the expense.
Personal policies are usually a lot more expensive unless you increase co-payments, deductibles and reduce limits.

Re: Health Insurance
I agree that sounds like COBRA. I hardly pay anything for DH and I, so... maybe they made a mistake somewhere? That can't be right...

Re: Health Insurance
At my office, I only pay for the extra cost to see any doctors (point of service), which is about $90/month. However, they will not pay for any family members. I do not know what the extra costs are since DH has insurance on his own.
It does sound a little high, but I know it is at least a few hundred dollars.

Re: Health Insurance
yeah thats very HIGH. Doesn't sound like the employer is willing to pay much if that is the remaining balance.

If this total includes your company contribution, then its normal... That's about how high the full insurance rates are. But then you would need to pay only for a portion of this figure, no?

Re: Health Insurance
do you work for a small company?
If you think these rates are high...try and get private insurance. My parents pay $1400 a month for a family plan through private insurance!!!

Amen to that. To get quality insurance while paying out of pocket, will leave you healthy and very broke. It is nuts, My cousin had private health insurance for a while but she couldn't take it anymore, 3/4 of her monthly paycheck was dissappearing.

Re: Health Insurance
Does your company allow pre-tax dedution of medical insurance? At least that way, you pay less taxes.

Re: Health Insurance
The actual total is approx $1500 a month. Out of that I'm responsible for $868 a month. I just cannot get over this cost. The thing is that last company I worked for in NY (I'm in FL) paid for 90 percent of my health insurance, so to think this is coming out my paycheck just kills me!!
ETA: Especially since I had to take a MAJOR paycut down here this eats up a huge portion of my income.

It's a fortune. My company only pays a third of the costs. I don't know how some people can afford to pay it.

Insurance is really high! Right now I have my own insurance and that is costing me about $380 a month...
