Okay girls hoping you can help me ... Im new to the boards and already having a crisis (well its a mini one ) my parents would like to throw us an engagement party , we were planning for Aug. 25th , however we just found out that my grandma has to have surgery , not a major one (on her knee ) so she wouldnt be able to get around. We would like to move it up to the Aug 11th , If we send the invites out by thur or fri and assuming that they get them on Monday ( everyone lives in the ny metro area) do you think this would be acceptable ? p.s. i dont want to send evites, as I already bought the invites they just need to be printed.
thanks in advance !

Re: Help !
in all honesty i think that you might have a problem w people having plans already.
my SIL's baby shower was pushed up several times, and by the time the date was decided on her mom sent out invites 3 1/2 weeks before the party. she invited like 40 people, and only about 20-25 are coming. my SIL is REALLY upset about it.
can you make it a fall engagement party?! that could be really nice...we had ours in september...the weather was still nice and it was lots of fun!!

Re: Help !
where are you having your e-party, at home or a catering hall, restaurant?
they won't really have alot of time to RSVP back but, maybe 10 days if its at a catering hall since you have to give a final headcount a week before but im sure your guests will understand

I hope that’s fine—I just sent out my invites for my e-party which is on August 18th! I really don’t think it will be a problem though and I hope everything works out for your grandma!

i agree just be prepared for this. Also it will be a pain getting all the rsvp's back, i would suggest also putting a phone number for guests to RSVP...i gave my guests 4-5 weeks to send back rsvp's and the last week i had quite a few i needed to contact bc i never received anything back, and most did come just didnt send out lol.
But just like it was mentioned above, summers are packed with events for ppl so many ppl have other plans or even away on vacation. If i received an invite for an event coming up soon i probably wouldnt be able to go, this past weekend had bachelorette party, this weekend have a wedding, then following week im going away

Re: Help !
thanks for the advice girls ... its an outdoor party so we thought about sep. 15th ? but I m afraid it will be too cold out ? what do you think ?
if we do decide on the 11th then i will have to be prepared for a short list ... i also checked with my bridal party and they can all pretty much attend ?

when you say outdoor, does that mean it's at someone's house?
if so, then will it be indoor/outdoor?
our september party was indoor/outdoor. it was actually late-september, and the weather was nice...a little chilly...but a LOT of people were outside for most of the party. and it was at my FSIL's house and there were lots of people inside too.
if your party will be similar, i think september will be fine!! i would go for that so more people can come and i think overall you'll be happier!

Re: Help !
If its going to be family-type gathering in the yard, why don't you just make phone calls?
