Please help... I have been engaged for a month and a half and I can not find a RH. It just seems that none of them are right. Did you all go through this too. Any advice? I am looking for December 2008. I am so confused I do not even know where to begin with these halls....

Re: Help
Get Locations magazine or make sure to pick up one of the bridal mags that has a table listing the reception halls. It will lay out for you the basics like capacity, location, usually some general PP ranges and then start your internet/telephone search. (there's a list on this site too but there were definitely some missing)
I used these things to narrow down my selections and visited about 8 halls. All that work to wind up falling in love with the RH of my first appointment....I guess that research paid off!
Woodlands was perfect for my criteria, but we each have our own likes and dislikes.

Re: Help
You should really make a list of the things you want / don't want and let us know so we can recommend some places to you. Also, how large is your wedding and what location? Nassau? Suffolk?
It's overwhelming, but you will find the right place.

Re: Help
Once you come up with a per person budget and a preliminary guest list you should be able to narrow it down a bit. We picked 10 places that we wanted to see or had heard good things about and went and saw them. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones that we missed but if you see too many it is easy to get overwhelmed. Good Luck and I'm sure you will find the perfect place for you.

Re: Help
Also, it helps if you know what kind of wedding you want...do you want something on the water or something along the lines of a more private estate-type setting? that can help narrow it down...

Re: Help
you have to give us more to work with. What have you looked at, what is your prices range, what is your ideal venue (are you worried about grounds or more the room service and food.) How many people

Re: Help
Thanks for all the responses so far. I have almost 300people on my list so far. We want a place that will decorate a lot for the holidays since it will be in December around Christmas. I care about what the grounds look like but the decorations are one of my focal points. The food is also very important to me. So far we looked at the Bourne Mansion and Nanina's in the PArk (in Jersey). I had an appointment to see the metropolitan but then found out it would be too small. There where a couple of others that we wanted to see but could not get appointments. As for price we are trying to stay under $150 a head including tax and gratuity. Any help you can provide i will appreciate...:)

Re: Help
Flowerfield decorates beautifully for the holidays, the grounds are gorgeous, and the food and service are top notch!! PLus their cocktail hour room (which is a beautiful atrium with a koi pond)will have enough room for all 300 people to sit!! ANd during the off season, they might even be in your price range!! If you decide to call them ask for Meaghan- she's amazing!!!
I'm a little biased- I had my dream wedding there! But there's nothing but great reviews about it!

Re: Help
I believe the Woodlands can accomodate a wedding of that size, it is gorgeous, I'm sure it decorates beautifully, it should be within your price range and the food is AMAZING

Re: Help
The Milleridge Cottage can accomodate that amount of people. I actually visited it during the holidays and it was decorated beautifully. They also have the village, which is great to take pictures and for guests...and holiday time you can get some great pictures there. They also only hold one wedding at a time, so you get the whole place to yourself and it's under what you want to pay.

Re: Help
Don't forget Russo's on The Bay in Howard Beach. They decorate beautifully both inside and out. I passed there last year at Christmas time before our son's wedding and they even had lights on the trees in front. Plus you CANNOT BEAT THE SERVICE..it is top notch all the way. The dinner and cocktail hour was amazing and the cake was beautiful and oh soo good! I almost forgot they can accomodate a big crowd.

Re: Help
I'm biased too, but I loved Flowerfield and it sounds like what you are looking for... I also think the Milleridge Cottage would be adorable for a Christmas wedding. I am having around 300ppl and it makes finding a place a bit more difficult. Check out Lands End also, not as 'Christmasy' is that a word? ha ha... but it is really nice too!

Re: Help
Basically, I knew I wanted Villa Lombardi's, but I looked at other RH'd for the fun of it. You can get a locations & vendors magazine. They sell them at borders and barnes and nobles, probably even CVS will carry them! and brides on here are always raving about: CLM, Fox Hollow, Villa Lombardi's, and others.... :) HTH
