Help! Affordable yet nice reception venues???

Hi!
I just got engaged a couple weeks ago and I am already in a panic about reception venues. I want somewhere that has good food, and indoor/out door facilities and nice classy decor (nothing outdated).I am looking to have in on a Friday evening over the summer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to places that might be good? The added dilemma is that I currently live in Boston so I need to make a concise list of the top places and just go see those places. I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction. Pricing I am looking at is about $70-$80 pp which would include sitdown dinner, open bar, facility and cake (main things) plus any other extras. And minimum person requirement 120 or under.

These are the places I have found online that I am interested in but I have never been to any of them so just wondering if anyone could provide input on these places and/or suggest others that might be a good match. Also, I am looking for ceremony on site (pref. outdoors).
These are the venues I was thinking about:
1. Betty’s Catering - Skylight room WWW.BETTYSCATERING.COM
$50 pp buffet, $78 pp sitdown

2. Renaissance http://www.renaissanceofastoria.com/
$85 pp sitdown,

3. Leonard’s – Prices?? Minimum person?
http://www.leonardscatering.com/

4. Jericho Terrace – Prices??? Minimum person?? http://jerichoterrace.com/flash/index.html

5. Captain Bill’s - $85 pp, 125 minimum
http://www.captainbills.com/catering.htm

6. Watermill Inn – expensive
http://liweddings.com/vendors/reception-locations/watermill/

7. Window’s on the Lake - http://www.windowsonthelake.com/

8. Hamlet Wind Watch - ???

Any inforsuggestions would help immensely!

your list is good...you may also want to consider Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens...we had our engagement party there, and it meets all of your requirements.

Also, I'm a Leonard's bride, and the prices will vary depending on the day and season. They should be able to accomodate your minimum...if you can, try to make a trip down when they have a food tasting--it's usually once a month on a Saturday

PS - the cake at Caffe on the Greene was AMAZING! For our engagement party we had a simple sheet cake, but it was unlike any other sheet cake I've ever had!!

I was just in wind watch yesterday, it's very pretty!
Had some buffet lunch, was above average.

The two cutest budget venue's I've seen on line were Plattedeutche house and the Miller surf Club. Don't know anything first hand about either.

I highly recommend Jericho Terrace, it is soo beautiful! It's my hall so I am biased but I am totally in love with it!

Jericho Terrace and Leonards for a Friday night over the summer will definitely be higher than your current budget.

I'm not sure of the price or the outdoor capabilities, but check out Irish Coffee Pub - it looks so nice and cute. One of my co-workers always talked about it and liked it.

You might also want to check out Verdi's of Westbury (I think there's also one in Whitestone - never been to that one). Or maybe Antun's (there's one in Hicksville and one in Queens Village). Again, not sure of the pricing or outdoor capabilities.

Another place I love which would fall in your price range is Koenig's in Floral Park. But they don't have outdoor capabilities.

And as someone else suggested, check out the Swan Club.

Jericho Terrace is amazing! We're paying 67pp for a Sat. afternoon in July. Our min. was 160 for the dome room. However, they have other rooms that have smaller minimums!

YESSS! Thats good news! I'm nervous about the cake. They said I could do a mini wedding cake but I dont think I want it to be that fancy.

Also maybe try Douglaston Manor in Douglaston. I have not been there but have heard good things about it.

I'd definitely say Swan Club is worth a visit.

Look into Tall Grass Country Club. It is a smaller more intimate type of venue... very inexpensive compared to some other places. I LOVE that place!
