Help-dress does not fit

Original post by tnt0224

So, I just tried on my dress and it doesnt zip up in the mid section of my back. I knew when I got the dress it was a little small but I figured I would be able to lose the weight and it would fit. I fell in love with the dress and it was discontinued and the only one left so, like an idiot i bought it. So, my question is, if anyone knows, do you think the dress can be let out. I bought it from davids bridal. It needs about an inch maybe inch and a half let out. It fits around the waist and the bust area fine, everything else is fine except for getting the zipper up the mid section of my back. Im stressing out. I have a fitting on the 26th so Im sure I'll know by then but I was anxious to see if anyone had a problem with a dress not fitting. My worst fear is having to buy a new dress. But if I have to I will. I just love my dress :(

Sorry for venting, im just really sad. I should've lost the weight. :(

I say use this as fodder to work out like a MANIAC...

see where you are in a month... you still have 3 months after that to get it let out a little or work out even HARDER.

you can do it!

I agree with the other girls........I would make the fitting alittle closer to the wedding....

My first fitting is in Aug. When I bought the dress I needed to loose a inch or so to get it to zip........I have the dress at my Mother's but I am just to afraid to try it on again.........don't think I have lost too much........

But I wouldn't worry too much right now........try the diet and reschedule the fitting and everything will work out!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help-dress does not fit

My dress didn't fit. I was so worried about it that I delayed my FIRST fitting until 5 weeks before my wedding hoping that I could lose a bit more. Sure enough, I was right...the dress wouldn't zip. 5 weeks before the wedding!!! They were able to let the dress out a little bit (maybe a 1/2 inch max...it really depends on the dress) , and I dieted and exercised like crazy. It magically fit at my second and third fitting.

You have time. I would recommend delaying your next fitting...give yourself a month or two and then start (or up) your workouts and eat really balanced (please be healthy!!) and drink lots and lots of water. Go try on the dress again in a month and see where you are. Then make the decision about trying to add a corset, etc. You truly have lots of time. My first fitting was 10/15 for my 11/18 wedding.

Here is my review that talks about my non-fitting dress...I totally know how you feel and I promise it will work out!

My review

ETA: My alterations DID wind up costing a small fortune, but I would have made a whole lot more to fit into that dress!!!

It's alright and inch and a half will be fine. Once when I was a BM my dress had to be let out 3 inches because of bad measurements - but it all worked out and looked beautiful in the end!

Don't stress, you'll be fine

You don't have to start fittings for another 2months, they can let it out like up to 2 inches. But instead, start running, cut out carbs (I can't do that so I stop carbs after 1pm) and you will be able to more than squeeze into your dress by August! I am going thru the same thing! I went to a spin class this morning, doing tae-bo, running/walking (depends on my mood) trying to eat better (the hardest part!) Good Luck!

You should be fine! I am almost positive that they can let the dress out!

Your starting your fittings now??? You still have a lot of time!
At most the dress will be able to be let out a total of a 1/2in. They don't give a lot of seam allowance unfortunately. But I like the suggestion of the corset back.
You still have time to lose weight and tone up before you really have to start to worry

I'm sure if you bring it to a good seamstress, they can let it out and figure something out for you.
you'll be fine, and you have a good amount of time for them to get this done for you. Stay positive!

You still have plenty of time to lose weight! Just make it a priority and each time you don't feel like working out or having a light meal just think about how your dress fits and it will motivate you!! That's what works for me! Even though I'm still not working out as regularly as I should be!

I would honestly reschedule my first fitting until two months before the wedding. You don't want to have too many fittings (letting dress out, taking it back in) b/c I would think it can change the overall look of the dress if it's altered too many times. You have over 4 months until your wedding, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. If you lose 5 pounds it will probably fit perfectly!

I agree COMPLETELY. Don't stress yourself out. You do not need a fitting 4 months prior. I postponed my fittings until I was ready. Don't rush into alterations.

My dress needed major alterations due to a change in my size & all that messing with it threw off the whole balance of the dress. I wound up buying a sample gown 3 weeks before & scrapping the 1st gown. It was so stressful . Don't do it. Just wait until you are ready.

they will totally be able to take it out. don't worry. have you tried it on with a long line bra? sometimes that helps too.

Definitely agree with this. You've got the time so that you don't need to have your fittings for 2 more months so during that time you can lose a few lbs. and it'll fit perfectly... good luck!!!
