FH definitely wanted duck, so we chose that, but we've gotten some wrinkled noses. Many people think it's greasy, so we just keep telling them it's not (at the tasting everyone who went loved it).
Out of filet mignon, swordfish, duck and a veg. option my grandmother can't seem to find anything she wants to eat - so you can't please everyone!
Just get what you want. If people don't eat duck they should eat the salmon or prime rib, and I'm sure your hall has a vegetarian option for all of us vegetarians and for anyone who can't find anything else to eat!

Re: Help! Duck or Chicken?
We were in the same situation and decided to go with the duck. Personally, I find chicken dishes boring and wanted to create an unusual menu for my wedding. I think you have to consider who you are serving, are they the kind of people that would try something new or do they prefer sticking with a safer dish? But really, ask yourself what you want to serve at your wedding and then serve it! With three choices, your guests will find something they like to eat.

Re: Help! Duck or Chicken?
My family loves duck, but I would go with chicken. Even though I like the duck thing because its different less people will complian if you serve chicken and i've decided that some people only go to weddings to complain. So the less complaints the better

Is there a way you can negotiate having both?

Duck isn't always liked (some find it fatty). I would stick with the chicken to be safe.

Actually duck is healthier then chicken, it just needs to be cooked right, the fat cooked off. Long Island ducks are the best ducks to eat. If you can have a tasting, try the chicken and duck dish and see which you prefer.

Re: Help! Duck or Chicken?
I am having a tough time deciding on this one too! I have heard from many people that my catering hall's duck dish is amazing. Even so, I think I will go with the chicken...Can't decide though....

I definately think chicken.
Most people eat chicken, ducks are more of a specific taste.

Re: Help! Duck or Chicken?
Duck!
When I'm at weddings I will usually try a 'special' dish, like the fish is it's not something I usually have. So I would love to see duck on the menu.
Think about your guests, especially your family. Maybe you can do a little poll amongst them?
