Help! I would love a band but it's so expensive

Hi there,

I'm not sure what to do.

The only thing I've said all along that I really wanted was a band. The average cost seems to be $6,000. Is this what everyone else has come across? Or does anyone have a less expensive band that they loved?

Thank you so much!

I felt the same way and in the end decided to splurge b/c it was the one thing I always wanted. $6000 does seem to be about the going rate. I'm using Code Bleu, Times Square is another which is great also & both are about the same...
CD & Company is a smaller (4 person) band that I think is in the $2500 range??

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Yes, that's about what bands cost. It's worth the splurge trust me. I used The Mystic and they were great. The dance floor was packed all night. They are a full 8 piece band. That is the one thing I wanted all along also, a good band. You can cut back in other areas, but music is not an area to cut back on. It can make or break a wedding! Their website is themysticmusic.com. Go see them in person though, they play at Hudson and McCoy in Freeport all the time.

i agree that music is pretty much the one thing that can make or break a wedding... if you always wanted a band, then maybe cut back on some other areas so that you can have one! maybe not have as many flowers ( use candle centerpeices instead), or not go crazy with limos.... but music s definitely important!

Unfortunately that is the going rate. I have to agree with everyone though, it is worth the splurge! We used The Projekt & I could not be happier! Our guests were so impressed & were dancing the entire night through!

We had Niteflight and let me tell you there wasn't a band that impressed me as much as they did. They were also less expensive than all of them. They don't book through an agency and you deal directly with the bandleader.

Please FM me if you want more info.

Music was the single most important thing to DH and he was adamant about it being great. They are a 9 pc band with a full horn section and 5 singers. They can cover anything.

They play at some clubs as well and they invite people down as a showcase of sorts. We saw them first at a showcase and then at a club.

I would say 6000 is about right too. We are also using Code Bleu. It is a lot of money but I really decided I wanted a band after seeing a showcase.

Unfortunately, the prices I saw were between 6000-7000. The only thing that I can suggest is if you really want a band maybe you can cut back on some costs for other items - invitations, flowers, etc.?

omg....i am such a clueless bride sometimes...every time i read these posts i start thinking it's a wedding band as in a ring... i'm reading this thinking, dang, $6000 is average???? i seriously need an upgrade and i'm not married yet.

sadly, yes, bands are that expensive. we didn't even do much research because even though FILs wanted a band, after the first 'OK' band they saw started at $5k, they said, DJ it is (which is what we wanted anyway)

We couldn't afford a band, so we kind of did a compromise - we hired a DJ with some live musicians - a steel drum band for CH, and a percussionist and singer for the reception. Perhaps you can follow this route.

I would look into that too.. When i went to the Bridal Expo at the Marriot Marquis, Best of both worlds put on a show case. They are a DJ company, but they also have singers. That adds something specials to having a DJ.. To me, spending 6000 on music is ridiculous... JMO

$6000 is definitely the average. That was one area that we were willing to spend a littlemore because music is sooo important.

We decided to cut back on Save the Dates and invitations.

I paid $5300 for Timepiece who is a part of Franlyn Wayne Music. Bands in general are a bit expensive.

I agree with everyone else. I was so angry at myself during our engagement for dropping @ 6K on a band, but after we heard them perform, it might as well have been a concert. They were absolutely terrific. At one point, our guests surrounded our horn section and was cheering them on and whistling. The dance floor was packed the entire night, and 3 weeks after the wedding my MIL is STILL getting calls from all her friends saying how our band was the best they've ever heard. We used Sweetwater Orchestras. The band leader was a pleasure to work with and very down to earth, while each band member is awesome at doing a particular genre of music. Definitely check them out if you decide you can come up with the money. DH & I are sure that our band made the wedding the success it was.

I'd say that's the going rate. FH and I only decided on having a band because we had one in mind that we have loved since before we got engaged. That being said, we would've gotten a DJ if we didn't have that band in mind.

It's definitely a splurge, and if it's important to you, there are many other areas where you can cut back in order to work it into the budget. I have just as much fun at weddings where there is a DJ as the ones that have a band...In fact, I think a great DJ is better than a good band...JMO

We are using Heart and Soul Band- they were they 'going ' rate for bands- 6800- it also varies for time of year (what I noticed) We love them though and were worth the $$$ to us.

Cut in other areas to have what you REALLY want

We used code Bleu by skyline orchestra and they were amazing. They cost around 5500. The average ranges from 5000 to 10000. They are expensive but are really worth to. Good luck with planning the wedding.

Our full 10 piece band was about that rate, but they also can do 7 pieces for much less. FM me if you'd like info. IMO, you can't beat a great band!
