Help - Just engaged and in a rush!

I have just gotten engaged this past weekend. My mom and Hubby to be - insist on next year - I would like Labor Day but it's clearly booked - as are most weekends! I feel overwhelmed and don't know what to do - any advise?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! . .

No reason to really feel overwhelmed- you have a year to plan and I'm sure things will fall into place. Start with finding the place, and from there things will work out.

Take some time to enjoy the engagement also :)

Reach out to people and see if anyone belongs to a private club that needs a sponsor. We are making our deposit tomorrow (10/27) for a June 26th wedding. That was our ideal weekend.

Pick up that phone and start calling RHs and your Church (if you are doing a Church ceremony). If they have your day available, go see them. Also check with photogs, flowers, and limos. I have a June 25 wedding, and only started planning at the end of August.

You will find something that meets your needs!

Because I'm OLD LOLOL - my fiancee and mother do not want to wait until 2012. I really wanted Labor Day but most places are booked - so now it's just a matter of 'finding a date'. September was perfect but most places are booked Sept and Oct sat and sundays.....

Congratulations first and foremost! Secondly, is a Friday totally out of the question? It tends to be a bit cheaper and you may open up a whole new multitude of dates. Give it a whirl.

Yes Friday is out - I have family coming from all over - NJ to CA - so it will take another day away from them....

And parents don't want early afternoon either (i.e. 11am) - so as you can see it's limited!

When we were searching – most places only had Fridays or morning/afternoon time slots. Maybe you can try Vineyards out East.

Congratulations! I am also planning my wedding in less than a year. It can be done as long as you can be flexible. We moved our date to a Sunday to get the weekend we wanted.
Definitely start with the venues (ceremony & reception). Once you have them set the rest will come together.

We had a similar situation, looking for dates in August for the following Summer and ended up getting a great date due to a cancellation the hall had. Just be as flexible as you can in terms of dates (think how soon you are willing to go) and it may work out--halls do have cancellations and dates become available!

you should be fine...take a deep breath...bc yes it seems so overwhelming the first few days after getting engaged...a million things go through your head. Relax and just start calling places that you like to check their availability. Im sure you will be able to find something, I book exactly a year in advance and I found things to be about half booked.

Relax!! You have plenty of time!! Get a list of the catering halls you're interested in and start making phone calls.

You can have a wedding friday evening, saturday afternoon, saturday night or sunday during labor day weekend.

On the bright side I have heard from a lot of girls who planned their wedding in less than a year that it save them a lot of $$ reason being they want to fill all the dates they can and feel if they don't make the sale they are losing money rather than the assumption way in advance that if they don't make the sale someone else will come along and pay more
