My Fiance's sister just sprung on me that she is leaving for medical school this coming semester. Our wedding is November 3rd. She is one of my Bridesmaids. How should I handle this???????

She is going to Virginia, but seems like only going to be back for the wedding...... not rehearsal, not dress fittings....kind of worried...Was only Saturday the other night

VA really isn't that far and you can get really cheap flights back to NY. Tell her to look into Southwest flights from BWI to MacArthur (only $78 roundtrip). Plus, you can just send her the BM dress and have her get it altered down here.

You could order her dress and have it shipped to her in Virginia. And tell her to follow what the BM in front of her is doing if she is going to miss the rehearsal.
I know it kind of stinks that you have to worry about this now.... but it doesn't have to be a disaster.

Well, I undertand your 'disappointment' but think about it. She really cannot postponned medical school for a wedding.
As long as you two keep the communication open it should be fine.

Your bridal shop should be able to ship the gown to her and if she starts to look early, I'm sure that she'll find a seamstress down there who can alter her dress. I'm sure you want her to be around for the bachelorette party and shower and everything else, but at least she'll be able to be there for the wedding. No worries! ANd congrats to her on going to med school!

You'll just have to send her her dress to get altered and keep in touch via phone and email. It's only VA so I woulnd't be too worried.
You also probably have to expect that she won't be as involved in the planning - so make sure you have other BM's who can step up to the plate.

There are soooo many things that can be done. If she can not make it for the measurements - she can find a place in VA and get her measurements taken. I would talk to her and see what her plans are - you may be worrying for nothing.

My SIL lives in VA..and only made it here for the wedding, it all worked out fine. I shipped the dress to her down there, she had alterations. The rehearsal was the day of the wedding, so no big deal. It all worked out just fine..I promise!

Yes she knew she was my bridesmaid... A long time ago. The dresses have been ordered since February.... I just kind of felt a little slighted the way she told me... 'I can only come back for the wedding' I am happy for her getting into Med school. But, she knew for quite some time. Could/Should have I been told sooner? Am I a Bridezilla????

You are not a bridezilla. We all have plans in our heads and we all fall off kilter when someone changes them.
All of my BM were from OOT. They lived in FLorida, Iowa, Boston, etc. They all got their dresses shipped to them. If she can't make the rehearsal, don't sweat it. Rehearsals are a formality. 2 of my BM didn't make the rehearsal and everything went fine on the wedding day.
