My wedding is september 21st... i STILL havent booked the honeymoon.. i started talking to Tom Vargese after hearing such great things about him here... he's really nice. He practically sold me on Jamaica's Couples Swept Away like he did with a lot of other girls... after talking about it and everything seeming great, he tells me our time is during hurricane season!.. im so upset. I was so excited about Swept Away and now i might have to change plans...
can any september brides tell me where you are going on your honeymoon, and if you would still go to jamaica in hurricane season??
btw, tom says i can buy hurrican insurance and couples will cancel the whole trip and flights even the day before and reschedule another time. Tom also said he will be in constant contact with me the whole week before telling me whether or not a hurricane is coming... if there is one, he says he can book someplace else right away..
HELP! WHAT WOULD YOU DO??? should i take a chance hoping there will be no hurricane or go somewhere totally else? (there has been on hurrican in jamaica in ten years and it was about 4 years ago)
THANK YOU!!

I wouldn't do it.... but I'll say I'm rather biased against beach-only vacations...
what about going either below the hurricane belt (except in sept, the equator has VERY intense sunlight) or even better, a mediteranean trip (like us )

Personally I would not want to deal with any of that the week of my wedding in case something happens. You will already have alot going on and then to pick a new destination would be too much.
How about Aruba?

Well this is tricky b/c hurricane season is really bad in Jamiaica and its not like rain season, where it will rain one or two days and stop. When we went to Jamica a few years ago in July, it would rain throughout the day and then stop. It was pretty much on and off. I would imagine at the end of Septemeber it gets alot worse.
What about the mediterranean?

I'm not crazy about going to a beach so we are going to Vegas, then cruise to Mexico (not doing any beach excursions probably atv tours etc) then we're hanging out for a few days in california.
Not sure what I would do, if I was dead set on going someplace tropical, I would go to Aruba or how about Turks and Caicos? We have been there a few times, it's gorgeous and very relaxing...

yup, i 2nd aruba. its the only island NOT in the hurricane belt so you can go any time of year and not have to worry. this is exactly why we chose aruba for our HM (even though hurrican season is july-sept, but my DH is overly paranoid about everything! )

We didn't want to do a long plane ride so Our travel agent suggested Aruba(hurricane safe)and a cruise(if theres a hurricane at one of the Islands your are going to, the boat will just go to another Island) We did a 10 day cruise to turks & caicos, bermuda,st.thomas and puerto rico

Curacao is also hurricane safe. It's right across from Aruba (the ABC islands, Aruba Bonaire and Curacao). Soooo beautiful. You can take day trips to each one!!!!

I wouldn't do it either. My DH and I first thought Tahiti and were talked out of it because we are 'too young' then we thought Europe and they were predicting rain. Then we thought Costa Rica, and they were predicting rain. So we settled on Mexico... Not really what we had had our hearts set on, but they were not predicting rain. September is a tricky time, but I am sure you will find a beautiful place with all the right amenities!
GOOD LUCK!

Well I don't know if this is much help... but I'm getting married September 8 and since I'm a teacher I'm not taking the honeymoon until December break but we're going to the Galapagos Islands and possibly one other South American destination. Is it hurricane season down there too? It's an amazing place :)

Okay we were in the same situation and we decided to book Couples Swept Away during August which is also hurricane season. I think it depends how spontaneous you are though. We thought it over and decided we would be totally fine with cancelling and rebooking somewhere else the week of the wedding if there is bad weather (and we could hopefully get a great last minute deal at that point!) We got the cancel any time insurance for like $100 each and figured we'll figure something else out that week if need be. If that would stress you out then it might not be the best plan. If you are fine with a last minute destination change, then I say go for it!

I would not chance it on my honeymoon. The weather is so unpredictable and you never know.
We are going to New Zealand & Australia. We also considered Hawaii & Italy

Yes, Aruba is very windy... Vinny said the same thing and that was about the third time I had heard that from various people!
Well, Hawaii would be a safe bet... We are going there in September.

We're date twins! We booked through Tom and he told me Aruba was our best bet to avoid a hurricane. We ended up going with Punta Cana though. It's not as risky as Jamaica, but more than Aruba. We got the cancellatiopn insurance just in case. And if we have to change our plans last minute, then so be it. A hurricane could hit here and I'm not moving my wedding around it, so why do it for the HM.

We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and the weather was perfect. It only rained overnight and it was sunny and hot everyday.

I'm doing a mediterranean cruise because I was worried about it being hurricane season. I think you should look into that - cruises are pretty affordable.Either that, or Hawaii or something below the hurricane belt. I guess it depends what you're looking for.

Aruba is out of the hurricane belt, along with Bonaire and Curacao. It is a little bit windy, but gorgeous and sunny.

Re: Help Me! RE: September Honeymoon (little long)
Personally, I wouldn't chance it. It's too much to worry about and it would be so disappointing to look forward to something and then having to re-schedule it on account of the rain. We opted for the Mediterranean to avoid the hurricane issue.
